Season’s Greeting to a modern holiday

This is always the time of year I start thinking about making Holiday Cards!  This is my little jump-start that always saves me when It gets down to the time to send Christmas Cards!  One of my most wanted stamps is the new to me, Stylish Christmas Stamp Set! This stamp is made using the new distinktive style of rubber stamps.  This means you get lots of detail from the stamp!!! I love wood mounted stamps!! So, I was super excited that Stampin’ Up! Came up with this new way to really bring out the awesomeness of rubber stamps!!! Today’s card features the greeting from this set for a clean and modern holiday card.

The Creative Way – A Product Feature

This month’s The Creative Way is all about the color Granny Apple Green.  This color is so fun and full of life!! I choose this particular green cause it is perfect any time of the year!!! Today’s card happens to be a Christmas Card, but change the sentiment and a little stamping you could have a fun Summer or Spring time Birthday Card. Even better and use the basic design for a nice masculine card!!! The possibilities are quite fun to think about!  I’m going to share with you a card that uses a fun color combination!  And how you can get a very modern card.  Then, tomorrow I will be sharing a stepped up version of the card that will open the possibilities up even more!!!

The color combination is based upon the fact that Lemon Lime Twist and Granny Apple Green are two different tones of one color. Without getting two deep…basically, they are the same color. Lemon Lime Twist is a lighter shade of Granny Apple Green.  They are both yellow-greens better know as Chartreuse. This color was give the name Chartreuse because it resembles a French liqueur of the same name.  Anywhoo, The third color Shaded Spruce was chosen because it was what looked good to me visually with the other two colors. Old Olive would have worked as well and would have been a darker version of the yellow-green pallet

Modern Christmas Card

  • This card was quite simple to make with a little masking, ink blending, and heat embossing
  • The green stripes were made by masking off sections of the card panel. Then using the sponge brayer to add the ink.
  • To add ink with the sponge brayer you want to start with light pressure and build the color up
  • The smaller stripes are a combination of two colors.  One is Lemon Lime Twist and Granny Apple Green .  The other is Granny Apple Green and Shaded Spruce
  • The final step was to add the heat embossing in Gold
  • The card base is the New Merry Merlot.

Without giving you too much more color theory, Merry Merlot was chosen as the card base because it is a complimentary color to the yellow-greens uses.  This basically means the card base makes the colors of the card pop!!!  It also means that they are across from each other on the color wheel. Well, now that I have sufficiently board you with color theory, ? I hope you will stop back by tomorrow and see how I step this card up a bit!

Each of your comments makes me smile! Please, comment HERE.

We will turn this classically modern card into a fresh up to date card with a modern vibe….

Rooted in Nature Thinking of You Card

Yesterday, I shared my version of a masculine card using the Rooted In Nature stamp set and Faux Batik technique. Today’s card is a softer more feminine card using a simple watercolor background and the same set! Thinking of you cards can be the hardest to make.  A soft watercolor wash seems to give a soothing fell along with a soothing color palette.

The Creative Way – A Product Feature – Rooted In Nature

This month for The Creative Way I am sharing projects made with the Rooted In Nature Stamp set!  This set will be available in June 2. I have so enjoyed working with the awesome stamp set.  Rooted In Nature is available as a Bundle which saves you 10%  The bundle includes coordinating dies!! How cool is that!!! You can join me Every Monday & Friday for The Creative Way – A Product Feature. Any yes, I know today is Tuesday!  It is a bonus day!  Yeppie!!!!

Nature

Rooted In Nature Bundle

I love watercolor backgrounds.  They are a quick way to add so much interest to a card!  Plus there’s like a million ways (techniques) that you can use to create fun watercolor backgrounds.  When I pull out watercolor supplies I normally end up making a bunch of backgrounds.  Mainly because I love the process of just sitting and trying different things till I’m content.  Also, it gives me a starting point for so many projects if I have a few watercolored papers hanging around. The other thing is watercolor always, always, always looks it’s worse right before it looks nice or pretty.  And wet always looks way worse than dry.  I can’t tell you how many prices of watercolor I have pulled out of the trash because I threw them away wet.  And once they were dry, I decided that’s not so horrible.  One of my favorite colors to use for watercolor is Tempting Turquoise (Retiring).  I just adore this color when it is combined with water! So, I wanted to make sure I used it on a card before it was gone!

Thinking of you card using Rooted In Nature

  • The watercolor was very simply done with ink refills and a aqua painter using Bermuda Bay and Tempting Turquoise
  • I worked Tempting Turquoise from one end to the middle. And Bermuda Bay from the other to the middle . Letting the two cross and blend.  This makes a very easy gradient wash.
  • After the initial color dried, I splattered Lemon Lime Twist on the background
  • The Leaves from Rooted In Nature were stamped in Lemon Lime Twist, Mint Macaroon, and Bermuda Bay. The die cut with the coordinating dies.
  • The Sentiment heat embossed with black embossing powder on vellum
  • The final step was to add some texture with the Sliver Thread and Nature’s Poem Twine (Mint Macaroon)

I love envelopes decorating! So I decided to add the leaves to the envelope!!!

Envelope decorated with Rooted In Nature Stamp Set

  • Using the same colors as the card, Bermuda Bay, Mint Macaroon, and Lemon Lime Twist the leaves were randomly stamped on the envelope flap
  • To protect the envelope front while stamping the flap, I used A piece of masking paper (Avery removable labels 6465)
  • The finishing touch was to add a few leaves to the front of the envelope

Thinking of you

I hope you have enjoyed seeing this bonus card for The Creative Way!!  I have so enjoyed sharing Rooted In Nature with you! Also seriously, the Tempting Turquoise ink is amazing for watercolor!! If you like this look I highly suggest you purchase it now!!

Happiest of Days

I am back today with a quick and quick and easy little card featuring the Happiest of  Day stamp set! I love the sketched look of the stamps  and that it is super sweet!  It is just one of those sets that a girly girl loves.

Oh Happiest of Days stamp set

This set is perfect for those who like to color! Or add doodling to a card.  I have seen lots of doodling lately on cards. It is defiantly an on trend thing! And it adds lots of personality to your handmade cards.  Rambling Rose Studio is amazing at doodling. You should definitely check out Billie’s work! Her cards are awesome and she will defiantly make you want to try your had at doodling.

  • Everything is stamped in basic black.
  • The three packages were colored with prisma color colored pencils. The colors used were Chartreuse (pc989), vert printemps (pc913), and eaugepále (pc1089)
  • The corner stamp is from the Host Set in the Holiday Catalog, Season of Whimsy
  • The last thing to do was add the doodling lines! I used a zig millennium 05 to do this.

The card base is a 4 bar size. Stampin’ Up! makes great 4 bar note cards and Envelopes. These are perfect for little cards like this. The Lemon Lime Twist layer is 3 3/8 by 4 7/8 inches.  The stamped Whisper White layer is 3 1/4 by 4 3/4 inches.

You guys know I love to decorate my envelopes.  So I added a little doodling to it as well and a Happy Birthday from Teeny Tiny Wishes

Each of your comments makes me smile! Please, comment HERE.

I’m going to leave you with an up close of the coloring. It was quite simple to add just a little bit of shading by layering the three colors on top of each other! Also, adding thin layers of color helped to build the color up!

Below is the supply list! Happy Stampin’ Remember you will also need a fine point pen for the doodling. And a way to color this awesome set!

Thank you for stopping by today! I hope each of you have a wonderful Tuesday!  Stay creative my friends!

Peace-

Take 2 with #GDP1000

The Global Design Project is celebrating their 100th challenge!!! How fun is that. Earlier this week I cased the fabulous, Brin King.  You can see my card here.  Today, I am caseing my friend Shawn DeOliveira.  Shawn and I officially met last year at World Card Making Day in Atlanta!  Though we know each other in the cyber world much longer.  So, I knew I had to CASE his awesome card for the Global Design Project 100th Challenge!

I love this card so much! The colors are awesome! The use of metallic is just perfect! One think that always impresses me about Shawn’s cards is the graphic feel they have.  That, and how he uses ribbon is beyond amazing!

Here’s the banner for Global Design Project. I hope you all will hop over to see the design team’s cards for this very special challenge!

I wanted to use metallic, like Shawn did! I also wanted to case his card design.  I love the clean and beautiful feel his card had.  I loved the texture of the background so, I wanted to case that as well.  That gave me a starting place…Matallics, design, and texture!!!

So the only thing let to decide on was the stamp set!

I decided on Lift Me Up! Mainly because, I thought the dies and stamped balloons would work as a focal point. Much like the sentiment, vellum, and ribbon all draw the eye to a certain point on Shawn’s card.  And, well, I love this set! And I had not used it recently.  So, it was time to dust it of…

Lift Me Up Stamp Set

I love how cute this stamp set is! And it is even better that the stamp set and coordinating dies work together to make verity of balloons.  What fun!!!

  • I decided for the metallic I would use the Foil Frenzy Designer Series Paper paired with silver foil.  What a fun combination! Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst complete the color combination
  • For the texture I added silver embossing with the touches of texture stamp set. This was added to the Berry Burst background and to the large balloon
  • The sentiment is outlined with a banner border from Thoughful Banners.  Look how wonderfully the sentiment fits right in there!

Christmas in July for Inking Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s July Blog Hop!  It’s Christmas in July, and today’s Blog Hop is filled with projects inspired by … you guessed it … Christmas!  What fun!  Although Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Holiday Catalog will be released to demonstrators this week (we can’t wait to share that with you), our Annual Catalog is filled with fun, festive and beautiful ways to make Christmas special.  We are excited to share our creations with you today.  After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

I am so loving all the Christmas products in the annual catalog! We have several stamps that carried over from last year’s holiday catalog. They are wonderful stamp set and I am so glad that they stayed around. I adore Flurry of Wishes, Christmas Pines, and Father Christmas just to name a few Then there are two new stamp sets that are just awesome! Merry Mistletoe and Nature Sings. There are a few other stamps that work well for the Holidays like At Home, Wats of Occasions, and Colorful Seasons. The stamp set I am loving the most right now for the Holidays is Carols of Christmas. It is being released in August! And it is awesome. The is set pairs with the card front builder dies! They are amazing as well. You can get this set now for FREE! When you join Stampin’ Up! In July. (more about this at the bottom of my post)

Carols of Christmas

Today I paired this with two stamps that are not Christmas related. But, end up making a fun and festive card. Fabulous Flamingo and Pop of Paradise. Both of these sets have one thing in common. Flamingos!!! I love Flamingos! They are just beautiful creatures.

Fabulous Flamingos Stamp Set

I Love this summery stamp set.  Click here to see another card featuring this stamp set.

Pop of Paradise Stamp Set

This was one of my favorite stamp sets from the 2016 Annual Catalog.  I am so very happy that it is back for another year.   Click here to see another card featuring this stamp set.

  • I stamped the flamingo from Fabulous Flamingo in Archival Basic Grey.  Then created a watercolor wash around the flamingo with Lemon Lime Twist ink.  The first layer was done with a really light wash of color.  Then I went back and added a second layer of color in some places.
  • The next step was to stamp the inside of the flaming in Flirty Flamingo
  • Then using a exact-o knife I made two slits and added the felt scarf using glue dots to keep the scarf in place.
  • The final touches was the sentiment, bakers twine, and the little holly cluster.  This is from the Carols of Christmas set.  I used Lemon Lime Twist marker and Flitry Flaming marker and colored the image then stamped it.

I love how this card came out so clean and simple.  It really is just fun to step out from time to time and experiment and see what you can come up with.  The second card.  I used the Flamingos from the Pop of Paradise stamp set and the ornaments from Carols of Christmas to create a little Christmas scene.  This reminds me of a big city Christmas window display.

  • This card was done in layers.  Each image was stamped with either Flirty Flamingo, Lemon Lime Twist, or Perfect Plum.
  • The second step was to then stamp each image with versa mark and heat embossed with clear embossing Powder.  Then Heat embossing each image.
  • The third step was to add the watercolor wash in Lemon Lime Twist
  • Then for a little interest I  stamped the Lemon Lime Twist and Perfect Plum ornaments a second time.  And die cut them out.  After die cutting them, I added them on top of the existing ornaments.  Either directly or by popping them up with a mini dimensional
  • The felt scarfs are add just like the other card.  I cut little slits in the paper to feed the felt through.  Then using glue dots to keep the scarfs in place.

I really enjoyed creating these whimsical Christmas Card.  It is always fun to look at your stamps and come up with something different.  I love looking at Instagram getting ideas for cards.  I have seen a few other cards similar to this which gave me the idea to try something different with these flamingos.

If you would like to see more of my adventures with stamping.  I would love for you to check out my Instagram.   I have been posting all month-long Christmas Cards for my Christmas in July theme.  You can fallow me at @westsidepaper
