I Think I Love You!

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s January Blog Hop! This year’s Blog Hop themes will be inspired by popular songs – the first is “I Think I Love You.” Our Blog Hop today is jam-packed with projects that are perfect for Valentine’s Day or that showcase love. How sweet is that?! We are excited to share our love-themed creations with you today. After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

I was thrilled when Stampin’ Up! added Brusho in the Occasions Catalog!  I love making backgrounds for cards with this crystalized form of watercolor.  Brusho makes this process super fun and easy!  Stampin’ Up! offers 5 colors Moss Green, Brilliant Red, Gamboge, Perssian Blue, and Yellow. I tried out all the colors and they are amazing. I can’t wait to do more with these watercolors. In my process, I did add two ink refill colors to the mix Berry Burst and Wisteria Wonder .   I ended up not using the Perssian Blue and Moss Green backgrounds that I made. I did save them for cards later on, so you will be seeing them soon.

To make all the backgrounds I used what I call smooch & slide.  It is basically, using a block for the smooching technique. The twist is that I slide the block around after smooching it to the paper.  Most of the background has layers of watercolor. Created by using a heat tool to dry the paper between layers of smooching. The heat drying creates the hard edges you see.

After the backgrounds dried, I started making the cards.  I originally was going to use the Lots of Lavender set from Sale-A-Bration.  But, quickly decided that the backgrounds were two bold for such a delicate stamp set.  So, I decided to pull out the Sweet and Sassy framelits.  And then I thought a little more about the song for today’s hop …. I Think I Love You.  And that’s when I knew I had to use the Celebrate You Thinlit Dies from Sale-A-Bration. You get them FREE with $100 purchase during Sale-A-Bration. And,  I Think I Love You is exactly how I feel about these dies! They are a must have!!!

The two cards above use the same heart. The top one is outline after die cutting. I had a hard time trying to figure out how to make the heart pop.  I finally landed on the Foil Frenzy Specialty Designer Series Paper. If I was doing this again I might would make it into a shaker card.  The one right above is the actual heart.  This card came together quite quickly! The heart and the you popped up,  to say Love you. And a splash of thread added a little interest. I love making fun backgrounds. Cause it lends itself quite well to clean and beautiful cards. I wish I had added a few sequins to it for a little extra bling…work was calling so I kept things super simple.

This card is the only card I did no Smooch & Slide with. I simply sprinkled on Brusho and spritz water. And repeated. Then let it dry.  The heart is Berry Burst ink refill that was watered down a bit and I used my wink of Stella pen to add shimmer to it.

It is hard to tell but, the shimmer add a lot of shine to these simple cards.

This is my version of an Eclipse Card. I make them a little different from a lot of people.  Most eclipse cards, for the popped up part they use demintionals.  What I like to do instead is use the die shape stacked on its self. So here I stacked 4 Berry Burst hearts and then the one watercolor heart in top of that.  This give a cool look even from the side! And you can decide how much you want to pop something up!

I hope you can tell how the Berry Burst shows from the side!

The you are simply is from the coordinating stamp set Amazing You. It is FREE with a $50 purchase during Sale-A-Bration. The amazing is die cut from a piece of watercolor background that I did not like as well as the ones I used!  It was perfect for this word die!

Take 2 with #GDP1000

The Global Design Project is celebrating their 100th challenge!!! How fun is that. Earlier this week I cased the fabulous, Brin King.  You can see my card here.  Today, I am caseing my friend Shawn DeOliveira.  Shawn and I officially met last year at World Card Making Day in Atlanta!  Though we know each other in the cyber world much longer.  So, I knew I had to CASE his awesome card for the Global Design Project 100th Challenge!

I love this card so much! The colors are awesome! The use of metallic is just perfect! One think that always impresses me about Shawn’s cards is the graphic feel they have.  That, and how he uses ribbon is beyond amazing!

Here’s the banner for Global Design Project. I hope you all will hop over to see the design team’s cards for this very special challenge!

I wanted to use metallic, like Shawn did! I also wanted to case his card design.  I love the clean and beautiful feel his card had.  I loved the texture of the background so, I wanted to case that as well.  That gave me a starting place…Matallics, design, and texture!!!

So the only thing let to decide on was the stamp set!

I decided on Lift Me Up! Mainly because, I thought the dies and stamped balloons would work as a focal point. Much like the sentiment, vellum, and ribbon all draw the eye to a certain point on Shawn’s card.  And, well, I love this set! And I had not used it recently.  So, it was time to dust it of…

Lift Me Up Stamp Set

I love how cute this stamp set is! And it is even better that the stamp set and coordinating dies work together to make verity of balloons.  What fun!!!

  • I decided for the metallic I would use the Foil Frenzy Designer Series Paper paired with silver foil.  What a fun combination! Lemon Lime Twist and Berry Burst complete the color combination
  • For the texture I added silver embossing with the touches of texture stamp set. This was added to the Berry Burst background and to the large balloon
  • The sentiment is outlined with a banner border from Thoughful Banners.  Look how wonderfully the sentiment fits right in there!

Mermaid Dreams …

Saturday I got the opportunity to stamp with some friends. I love it when we get the chance to get together and learn from each other. We worked on learning a few new techniques. We worked on making faux Lenin three different ways. The first two were very similar techniques. The third though, used tissue paper to make a background. This technique did not (for me) really turn out looking like Lenin. Thought, I will keep it in my stash. Because, it is beautiful. We had fun stamping and creating backgrounds for future cards. I loved all the chatting and catching up, it is always the best part!

There is a beautiful stamp set in the annual catalog that will have you dreaming of mermaids… The Magical Mermaid stamp set is just one of the most gorgeous sets I have ever seen. The mermaid is so perfectly drawn and lends its self to all sorts of coloring. Especially, watercolor!

Magical Mermaid

The Stampin’ Up! samples for this set are just so perfect. They used the little mini mermaid for gift tag. How cute would that be for a pool party or beach party. It is paired with a card that is watercolors that brings all the magic of the mermaid to life.

I love how clean and fresh these samples are. They are just so awesome! The stamp set is so pretty that it takes so very little effort to make it look amazing! And as stampers we love this!

  • For the background Take a piece of tissue paper and stamp all over it with a “texture like stamp” I used the stamp that had little crabs and shells mixed with sand and the dotted texture stamp that is like water bubbles. The crab and shells stamp I stamped in Pool Party. The Texture stamp I stamped in Tranquil Tide
  • At this point you take the tissue paper and wad it up into a ball. Then un-wad it. This adds lots of texture to the tissue paper
  • Then I started to decide on a background color to admire my tissue paper to. This is when, I decided that the pool party stamping really did not show up on the tissue paper. So, I sat a few minutes and decide to re-stamp the crabs and shells in versamark and use silver embossing powder. this turned out beautifully, but you really can’t tell that they are crabs and shells
  • The next step is to add the sea weed in Tranquil Tide
  • I decided to use Bermuda Bay as my background. I added glue from a glue stick to the front on the panel and adhered the tissue to that. Then flipped it over and attached the tissue to the back of the panel
  • The next step was to and silver embossing to the edges of the panel and to the Berry Burst layer with the texture stamp.
  • On a piece of shimmery white paper silver emboss the Mermaid. Then using Berry Burst, Flirty Flamingo, Powder Pink, So Saffron, Daffodil Delight, and Peekaboo Peach watercolor the mermaid with a aqua painter.
  • Then after the mermaid is dry, fussy cut the mermaid out.
  • The sentiment is stamped in Berry Burst on shimmery white and layered with an embossed sliver layer and Tranquil Tied.
  • The sentiment and the mermaid are popped up with dimensionals
  • And finally add a few metallic enamel shapes.

A fun color combination for GDP097

The Global Design Project has a great color combination for us this week. It is Berry Burst, Wild Wasabi, and Crumb Cake.  Be sure you hop over to Global design Project and see all the fab. inspiration the design team has for us this week!  I think you will be quite impressed with what they came up with.  Don’t forget to scroll down to the bottom and see all the wonderful creations by those playing along.

This lovely color combination is quite vestal. And should be kept in mind for all seasons. It makes beautiful summer flowers, awesome fall leaves, and would be wonderful for a modern Christmas Card!

I decided to pull out a stamp I had not used in a while. Defiantly Dahlia. This is a large background stamp that is us

I thought berry burst would be the perfect color for this sweet flower! And of course, I made another square card with it!!! I paired the Dahlia with a sentiment in the Climbing Orchids stamp set. I made three versions of the card for y’all today. The first two are the Global Design color combination. The third was a happy accident ?

  • The Dahlia was stamped in Berry Burst on Shimmery White paper. You can’t really tell in the picture. But, this paper gives the stamped images a beautiful finish.
  • The thinking of you was stamped in Wild Wasabi.
  • The third step was to add the layers and ribbon

  • The Dahlia was stamped in Berry Burst again.
  • Then I used a baby wipe to add texture to the flower.
  • Next using another baby wipe I added Crumb Cake.

  •  The Dahlia was stamped in Basic Gray. You can see little spots of Berry Burst. That’s because I did not clean my stamp before reinking. I was planning on using Berry Burst, but picked up Basic Gray.
  • This one was so pretty just the way it was. That I decided to keep it extra simple and not add a bow
  • I really love how the Basic Gray picks up the detail of this stamp

The final cards are 5 1/2 by 5 1/2.  The Shimmery white layer is 4 1/8 by 4 1/8.  Then each layer is built out from there.  The two Wild Wasabi cards the layers are 4 1/8 , 4 3/8, 5, and the 5 1/2 card base.  The Basic Gray card layers are 41/8, 41/4, 5, and the 5 1/2 card base.

Ink play with color insperation from Hacking the Color Wheel #hackingthecolorwheel

I hope each of you had a wonderful 4th of July! I spent my day working on a “mood” color swatch journal.  I actually made the journal. I have not put the cover on it yet. But, I have the pages bound together. And journal a little.  I am taking an art journaling class that is all about the Color Wheel. The class has been lots of fun! And I am learning so much. #hackingthecolorwheel. Today’s card is the result of my first page color combination in the journal.  This color combination is from a magazine page the teacher was using.  Hacking the Color Wheel is tought by Kiala Girehand and a whole host of other artist. This lesson was taught by Sherry Canino.  You can check out class info at Kiale Girehand

Color inspiration in art journal

  • I love how combining ink colors we can make new shades that blend with existing colors
  • I’m not a big muted color fan. But, the green grey created by mixing smoky slate and crushed curry
  • Colors can create a certain mood. The magazine page that this combination was pulled from was a yoga pose in front of mountains. With splashes of bright color. The mood energizing..

  • The card base is ink smeared on a block with very little water. Then sliding the block across watercolor paper to create a textured pattern.
  • I cut off most of the Smoky Slate. But, you get a few hints of it in the green created when it mixed with Crushed Curry
  • The Berry Burst stands out as the star of the show!!!!
  • this card is 5 1/2 by 5 1/2. (cut paper so that it is 11 by 5 1/2 and then score at 5 1/2 inches on the 11 inch side) The berry burst layer is 5 by 5. And the inked layer is 1/8th inch less
  • I adore using the Just add Text stamp set!  It is perfect for all the beautiful backgrounds you make!!!
