Dove of Peace

You guys know I just love the stamp set Dove of Peace.  It will be retiring soon from the Stampin’ Up! collection.  So if you have not gotten this must have stamp.  Your time is running out.  Today, Stampin’ Up! announced what will be retiring from the Holiday Catalog.  This is always a exciting time when a retiring list comes out.  Because, this means their are many new exciting  now items to come!

Main_HM_Retiring_OLO_1116_US (1)

A few weeks ago I had the chance to make a card using Dove of Peace for Conformation.  The dove is so perfect for such a occasion.  While making this card I kept thinking about this…”Heaven came down and Glory filled my Soul” …heven-came-down

I was going to use these words.  But, unfortunately I had lost my “e” in the Back to Basics stamp set.  Do you know how hard it is to letter words with out a “e”!!!!  Anyway,  I decided on the simple words of love and Peace.  For this is what conformation is truly about!

IMAG2337

The card base is Blackberry Bliss card stock cut at 5 1/2 inches and scored at 4 1/4 inches.  The Delightful Dijon layer is  5 1/4 inches by 4 inches.  The layers on the left side are a combination of Bermuda Bay, Delightful Dijon, and Bohemian Designer Series Paper.  The circle layer was made with ink refills and watercolor paper.  I simply used a aqua painter and painted the color on and allowed the colors to mix.  Using the Christmas Greetings and the Big Shot cut out the word “peace” in Bermuda Bay.  The “&’ is from Back to Basics stamp set.  The word “love came from a past paper pumpkin kit (Chalk It Up)

The dove was stamped after coloring it with a combination of Blackberry Bliss,, Delightful Dijon, and Bermuda Bay Stampin’ Write Markers.  After stamping the Dove use your paper snips to cut the dove out!

Dove of Peace is such a versatile stamp!  It can be used for all sorts of occasions!!!!  You will not regret have this stamp in your collection!!!!!!  And remember that most of the Holiday Catalog is Retiring and will be gone on January 4th.  Some items will be gone before then.  Because, they are while Supplies Last!!!!

Share Handmade Kindness

Some people just know haw to inspire others.  Jennifer McGuire is one of those people.  She is a rock star in the stamping world.  Not only because of her amazing talent, her beyond fabulous organizational skills, or her superb teaching ability.  She’s a star because she is always encoring others!  And Jennifer McGuire has new challenge that goes beyond the making of handmade cards.  The challenge is Share Handmade Kindness .  There will be different each week.  This week she is encouraging us to Share Handmade Kindness with family and friends.   I personally struggle with actually sending the cards I make.  This is so very different from my past life…At one point, I would sit and wright to friends and family.  But, as time went by I got out of the habit ….. Therefor, when I found out about Jennifer McGuire’s challenge I know it was exactly what I needed to do.    I love the idea of her challenge.  So today, I am shearing with you my first project for her  Share Handmade Kindness Challenge.   SHK-blog-badge

When preparing for today, I was not real sure who the challenge would want me to share with.  But, I know that I would need cards to share.  I decided to use a sentiment that included the word “kindness” seance that was what the challenge was all about.  Untitled-12

I have been practicing watercolor backgrounds with different types of media.  So in practicing with ink refills by Stampin’ Up! backgrounds were created for a simple card that I could reproduce quite easy.  I wanted something that would be easy to make several of .  So I could Share Handmade Kindness as much as possible.  After making several backgrounds I chose two stamps that are in the Holiday Catalog.  Theses are bold images that would show up well on the watercolored background.  dove of peace

I just gravitate to this stamp set.  I love everything about this dove.

lighthearted leaves

I have been wanting to “play” with this set more.  So this seemed like the perfect opportunity!IMAG2340

The cards are all different sizes.  I chose three colors to work with.  Blackberry Bliss, Delightful Dijon, and Bermuda Bay.  It is amazing how many different color combinations can be made from three ink refills.  The backgrounds are easy to create.  Just simply  add a dot of in refill to a acrylic block  and use a aqua painter.  Pint the background onto watercolor paper.  Then allow to dry.  The amount of water that is mixed with the ink refill will have a lot to do with what color the ink goes onto the paper.  Bermuda Bay mixes well with Delightful Dijon to make a very pretty green.  After the background was dry I stamped and heat embossed the image.  Finally, adding the sentiment to the outside on some.  And the inside on others.IMAG2343

Practice makes progress.  I am always practicing simple washes of color.  Different mediums react different to water.  So you bear different results.  Practice is key to getting great results.   The ink refills work well for backgrounds of this type. But, because they are not “real watercolors” it takes a little practice to get good results.  I like to practice a lot!!!!  And using bold stamps on top of the washes is a great way to use your practice work.IMAG2344

I can’t wait to share these with family and friends this week.  I already have my list out and preparing to Share Handmade Kindness.

Be sure to check out Share Handmade Kindness and Jennifer McGuire

One last thought about Share Handmade Kindness.  Some projects are closer to home that other.  Jennifer shows the true spirit of a stamper and why we all get involved in crafts.  Sharing what we do with others is at the heart of what it means to be a Stamper, craftier, a cook, or artist.  We all love sharing our creations.  I know I needed a nudge and a reminder about why I was stamping in the first place.  Sharing is the Heart of all that I do.  I hope you will join me and Share Handmade Kindness.

I’m so loving Dove of Peace

I always gravitate towards certain stamp sets.  Some I love from the moment I see them, others I love after I have bought them.  Some stamp sets I love from the moment I see them and then have a hard time stamping with them once I have them.   (I’m playing around with one of those sets right now…day’s trying to get what I want)  Other stamps I’m not sure what to do with them when I see them.  But, once I start seeing all the beautiful creations and use the stamp my self I fall in love.  It is always interesting to see what stamps I keep reaching for.  Dove of Peace is defiantly a Love .  I could use it every day and still want to pick it up again and create something new. dove of peace

I was looking through some paper from the Holiday Catalog and in the Happy Hountings Designer Series Paper their is a great black paper with stars on it.  Perfect for a night sky.  I just knew it had to be paired with Dove of Peace.  Happy Haunting

The other little add sparkle comes from the new Black Glimmer Paper in the Holiday Catalog.  No Black Glimmer Paper is not just for Halloween!!! Black Glimmer Paper

So, Now I bet I have you wondering how in the world do you make Happy Hauntings and Black Glimmer Paper work with a Christmas stamp. IMAG2147

Here are the details:

  • The card base is Very Vanilla card stock cut at 5 1/2 inches and scored at 4 1/4 inches
  • The layers are Black Glimmer Paper(5 3/8 by 4 1/8) and Happy Haunting Designer Series Paper(5 1/4 by 4)
  • Stamp the Dove of Peace in Versa Mark ink  then sprinkle with black embossing powder.  Then Heat set using a heat tool.  Make sure to use the embossing buddy before you stamp the dove.  Also shake off any access embossing powder before heating the powder.  I just love watching the powder turn into a raised embossed layer.  So very cool!!!!
  • Fussy cut the dove out using your paper snips.  If you don’t own a pair of good paper snips then make sure to check out Stampin’ Up! snips.  They make the best :>
  • Stamp the word believe in Versa mark ink and then sprinkle with black embossing powder.  Then heat set.  The believe is from the Jolly Christmas Stamp Set
  • Back the word believe with Black Glimmer Paper

Make sure you check out all the wonderful items that are apart of the weekly specials.

Dove of Peace for Mojo Monday Challenge #412

Mojo Monday  is such a great card sketch challenge.  They bring such a wonderful varity of sketches to us.  I have enjoyed playing along with all the different challenges that I have fallowed for so long now.  Mojo  Monday was one of the first challenges that I started fallowing on a regular bases.  The design team is jam packed full of talented artist!!!!!  This weeks sketch is brought to us by Julee Tilman.  Now normally at this point I am telling you about how things did not go as expected with a sketch challenge and how hard they are for me….Well, today was a little different experence.  I had a idea.  And, it came to me at about 2:48 in the morning yesterday.  I guess I was creating in my sleep.  All I know is I awoke with the idea.  No, I did not get up and make the card then….though some nights that’s not a bad idea.  When I go home from work and started making the card and the dream came together right nicely.

Mojo412

What a great sketch!!! Don’t you just love all the layers.. circles, squares,  and rectangles what’s there not to love!!!!

When I first saw the Dove of Peace stamp set I saw so much more than a Holiday Stamp.  It is so very versatile for so many different occasions.  I guess I had this on my mind when I was sleeping and the vision of today’s card came to me.  Because, what I knew I wanted was to replace the square with the dove.  And  the circle to be silver glimmer paper.  I also, wanted to sear away from Holiday Colors.  While working I continued to create my card.  I wanted a sentiment that was full of faith!  I was going to use Soft Sky Paper and heat emboss the dove in silver. So on and so on…..When I got home I got to work….IMAG1975

Here are the Details:

  • The card base is Soft Sky card stock cut at 5 1/2 inches and scored at 4 1/4 inches
  • The layers are Silver Glimmer Paper ( 5 3/8 by 4 1/8), Whisper White (5 1/4 by 4) , and Whisper White ( 5 1/8 by 4 7/8) sponged with Soft Sky ink using a Sponge Dabber
  • The circle is cut from the Circles Collection Framelits  with Silver Glimmer Paper
  • The Banner is Soft Sky(1 3/4 by 5 1/8), Silver Glimmer Paper (1 5/8 by 5 1/8), and Whisper White (1 1/2 by 5 1/8)
  • Stamp the sentiment using Stone Gray StazOn ink on the Whisper White banner.
  • The dove is stamped in Versa Mark ink then sprinkled with Silver Embossing Powder and Heat Embossed.  Then fussy cut the dove out
  • The Ribbon is Whisper White Satin Ribbon that has been colored using the Soft Sky Stampin’ Wright Marker
  • All that is left is to adhere the layers together using multipurpose glue and Stampin’ Dimentionals. The three layers are glued together and then using dimentional added to the card base.  The circle is guled to the sponged layer.  The Banner layers are glued together.  The ribbon is added using glue dots to the back of the banner. This banner is glued to the sponged layer.  The dove is added to the top using dimentionals

Just a few side notes.

  1. When heat embossing make sure to use your Embossing Buddy.  This will help the embossing powder from sticking where you don’t want it.
  2. The Paper Snips really make fussy cutting such a breeze.  Make sure you have a pair on hand!!!!
  3. The Dove of Peace stamp set is in the Up-Coming Holiday Catalog.  Available September 1st!!!!  This is the best Stampin’ Up! catalog ever.  You don’t want to miss it……

Here is a video by Stampin’ Up!  all about embossing:

The first of my Holiday Pre-Orders did come in yesterday.  When I got home from work it was waiting for me!!! Yahoooo….So naturally, I had to make a card with my new goodies to share with you.  What did I get you ask.   Well, just a few things, including Dove of Peace. Mark your calendars September 1st is when the Holiday Catalog goes Live!!!!

IMAG1803

IMAG1804

I am just overjoyed with the selection of products in the Holiday Catalog.

I will be placing another Pre-Order next week

So, I will have even more to share soon.

Dove of Peace is a wonderful bohemian approach to the Christmas Season.  After using this stamp, I know it will be in my Favorites for many years to come… I love how it stamps.  I love the flower sketches with in the dove.  I love the Bible Verse.  I see using this stamp for more than just Christmas.  Dove of Peace

Here are the  Details:

  • The card base is Mint Macaron card stock cut at 5 1/2 inches and scored at 4 1/4 inches.
  • Cut a layer from Daffodil Delight to 5 3/8 inches by 4 1/8 inches. Adhere the Daffodil Delight layer to the Mint Macaron card base using Stampin’ Dimentionals
  • Cut a layer from Shimmery White (I only recently discovered the wonderful joy of having this fine paper in my arsenal of supplies…AKA it’s a new favorite and I use it every day now!!!!)  to 5 1/4 inches by 4 inches.  Use sponge dabbers , ink , and a little water to color the Shimmery White card stock.  I used Soft Sky and Mint Macaron.  Start at the top with Soft Sky and work towards the bottom.  Add Mint Macaron from the bottom and work towards the top! Allow this layer to dry!  I know it is hard to do…Go do something else and come back. Or make your other layers of the card while you wait.  Check and see if you like. I added several layers.  So this may take a few times to get desired darkness.
  • When the Shimmery White layer is dry Use the Softly Falling Textured Impression Embossing Folder and the Big Shot to Emboss the layer.
  • Adhere the “watercolor” layer to the Daffodil Delight layer using multipurpose glue.
  •  On a 1 by 3 inch piece of Shimmery White card stock stamp the sentiment using Staz On ink. Use the sponge dabbers, Daffodil Delight ink, and a little water color over the sentiment to make the paper yellow.  Allow this to completely Dry
  • Cut a Soft Sky card stock piece to 3 1/4 inches by 1 1/4 inches.  Glue the yellow layer to the Soft Sky layer.
  • Stamp the Dove using Staz On ink.  Color in the dove using Daffodil Delight, Soft Sky, and Mint Macaron.
  • Fussy Cut the Dove out using your handy dandy Paper Snips
  • Use Stampin’ Dimentionals to adhere the sentiment and the dove to the card base.

I hope you are getting as excited as I am for the Holiday Catalog.  September 1st. is the Big Day! The Holiday Catalog goes Live!!!!
