CAS(E) This Sketch

CAS(E) This Sketch has a great card design for this week.  I love the simplicity of the sketch! It has a wonderful graphic fell that lends itself quite beautifully to a clean and beautiful style of card making!

CAS(E) This Sketch

Share What You Love

The Share What You Love Designer Series Paper (146388)  is beautiful.  I love the perlized look of the paper. Also, it is Specialty paper so it is thicker!  Witch makes it perfect for all your paper crafting needs!

Share What You Love

Share What You Love Designer Series Paper

This paper will be available in the upcoming Annual Catalog!  But, you can get your hands on it now in the Got To Have It All Bundle which is part of a special early release of the Share What You Love Suite!

When I first saw the sketch and was thinking about what to do, I knew the Share What You Love  paper was perfect!  This paper is so beautiful that I really did not want to cover it up much.   Also, Brian King’s card (from the design team) was a great source of inspiration for me.   You can see Brian’s card and the rest of the design team’s cards at CAS(E) This Sketch.  I loved how he used a tree for his vertical line in the sketch!  I wanted to do something similar.  So, I thought about flowers and leaves.  This is what made me reach for the Petals and More Thinlit Dies (145655)!

Petals And More Thinlit Dies

That’s when I decided to use the thin delicate die in this set.. These dies coordinate with the Petal Palette Stamp Set (145785) .  Even better they are avavailable a bundle (145973)  through May! This saves you 10%!!!  I promise you will be reaching for them all the time!!! And they coordinate with so much more than just each other!

CAS(E) This Sketch 271

  •  The details die cut is from Petals and More Thinlits Died.  They were easily stacked using the Adhesives Sheets on the back of the Mint Macaroon.  This made it quick to stack on top of the Tranquil Tide
  • The Label is from the same sets of dies
  • The card base is the new Petal Pink!  It is the most wonderful peachy pink.

Next week, I will be sharing a stepped up version of this card!  So, be on the lookout for that!

It’s a colorful day

Some times  you just have to create your own color!  The days have been cool and gray here in Alabama.  So today, I decided it was time to create my own Spring!!  I love the colors of spring! Bright yellows, pinks, corals, and shades of green . It is just a happy time of year.  To recreate my Spring day, I chose the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper .  This paper is so fun to color!

Petal Passion

Petal Passion Designer Series Paper

I truly love this paper!  The patterns are modern and classy!! The most perfect combination for Designer Series Paper!!!   If you choose to color the paper it completely changes the look of the paper . My favorite way to color this paper is with Stampin’ Blends.  The Stampin’ Blends are Stampin’ Up! version of Alcohol Markers. They will be available soon! Due to popularity they are currently sold out!  But, they will be back soon! Stay tune for more!!

Petal Passion Card

  • The card base is Powder Pink cut at 4 1/4 inches and scored at 5 1/2 inches.  I call this the Brian way, cause he always makes his cards this way!  And Brian was the first person I noticed to do this years ago.
  • The layer is Tranquil Tide
  • After coloring the Petal Passion Designer Series Paper, I had a 6×4 piece,  it was cut down to fit the card.
  • The final step was to pop up the sentiment from  the Color Me Happy Stamp Set

You guys know I love to decorate my envelopes . I did something a little different for this envelope!

Petal Palette Stamp Set

  • I made a square using a t-ruler and a pencil .
  • The second step was to add the stamped images from Petal Palette stamp set
  • Then, I added the square with a fine line pen.  After adding the ink lines, I erased the pencil lines
  • You can see some pencil lines within the square . That is for the address.  They will help me right straight . After I address the envelope, I will erase the pencil lines

Happy 100 to Global Design Project #gdp100

The Global  Design  Project  is celebrating  there 100th challenge!  I remember  how excited  I was when this challenge  started!  I was even more excited  to participate  in that very first challenge. Now, 100 challenges later we are all celebrating the designers.

Each designer designed a card.  Those of  us playing along, are picking a designer to case.  What fun! For today’s  card I picked my friend,  Brian  King! His clean line card is amazing. I love the pop of gold he used!!!

I love  the clean lines with the marbled background!  And the bold focal point is awesome!

I knew that I wanted to use a metallic as part of my focal point.  So, while thinking about what stamped I wanted to use I also thought  about what would look awesome  in metallic. I decided on a new stamp bundle in the  upcoming  Holiday  Catalog  (available  September 1) Pick a Pumpkin bundle is beautiful  and has a pumpkin in the dies I know  I wanted to guild! Perfect!

Pick A Pumpkin Bundle

I wanted  a basic  background  that would allow  the pumpkins and gourd to shine.  I went to my default  background  technique, and ,adequate a watercolor background!  I sed the ink refill for the watercolor.  Initially, I was just going to use two colors and make a soft background.  But, the watercolor  had something else in mind.  I love how the unexpected  addition  of Tempting  Turquoise is to this Pool Party and Tranquil Tide background.

Pool Party
Tranquil Tide
Tempting Turquoise

I have several pictures to share with you today .  They will show you the process  I used in making my watercolor  background.

The first step is to gather the supplies up that our will need!  You will need watercolor  paper, ink refills o your  choice, a aqua painter, versamark ink, a heat tool, and embossing powder.  I also used a clip board and some  painters tape.

Let’s talk  just a second about watercolor  paper. Watercolor  paper comes in three forms normally.  hot press, cold press, and rough.  Stampin’ Up! watercolor paper is cold press paper.  For this particular project I wanted a paper that had more tooth.  So, I pulled  out  some rough paper.  I am addicted  to watercolor  paper and use all three types.   Hot press is awesome for stamping because  it has a smother  surface  than the other two.  You  could make this card with Stampin’ Up! watercolor paper without any problem

The first thing I did was to tape off a border on the watercolor  paper. I used my grid paper to help lign it up straight. I did not really press down my tape  to the grid paper because,  I transferred the whole thing over to a clip board.

The next step  was to use my aqua painter to add water to the paper.

The next step, is to start adding color! I started off with Pool Party. I added a few drops of ink and water to a flat dish. Using  a aqua painter, I  added the color. I started with up and down strokes. Then dropped  in color in a few spots

At this point, I used my heat tool to dry the paper.  After each addition of color the paper was dried with a heat tool.  This added some harsh  lines between layers of color

The second  layer of color was Pool Party and Tranquil Tide.  The color was added in the same fashion.   By starting with up and down strokes, them dropping  in color.

Again,  I heat set the panel adding definition between  layers of color.

The final watercolor step was to add Tempting Turquoise  ink and Pool Party ink.  This layer was added with almost  a dry brush.  Again, using an up and down motion with the Tempting Turquoise.  Then I added a little  more water to my brush and added Pool Party ink.

Watercolor always looks it’s worst right before it looks good. So keep going and practice.  Practice is key in learning how watercolor works.  The final step is to heat set the watercolor  one last time. Carefully,  remove the tape.

After the watercolor panel is dry, it is time to add the copper  embossing.  To do this you will need embossing power,  versamark ink, and a heat tool

I used the edge of the versamark ink pad to add inkto the paper.  Then added the embossing powder.

At this point my embossing looked quite messy.  So, I  used a paint brush to swipe away any unwanted embossing powder.  Then used my heat tool to set the embossing.

I love the final results! The copper really adds a fun fall feel to the background.   It also brings in the copper guiding flakes used on the pumpkin.

I love to watercolor and don’t get the chance to use the rough paper very often.  I love the results of the inks on this paper.  The difference  in color  between  this panel  and the one on the card is that this one turned out darker.  That’s because,  I used less water in my ink dishes.  Also, no two watercolor panels will ever come out exactly  the same.

  • The images were stamped and die cut out. The small pumpkin in Peakaboo Peach. The gourd  in Bermuda bay.  The fun leafy flower thing in Tranquil Tide on Pool Party  paper.  The large leaf stem is die cut with Tranquil Tide paper. The small curly q is die cut with soft  suede paper
  • The large pumpkin is die cut out and has gilding added to it.  I used mostly copper. But, there is a little silver and gold also. I used whisper white paper and added the new adhesive sheets to both sides.  Then cut out the die. And added the leafing to one side.  The same process was used  for the large curly q
  • The card base is Soft Suede with a copper layer on top
  • The final steps was to decorate the envelope!

Mermaid Dreams …

Saturday I got the opportunity to stamp with some friends. I love it when we get the chance to get together and learn from each other. We worked on learning a few new techniques. We worked on making faux Lenin three different ways. The first two were very similar techniques. The third though, used tissue paper to make a background. This technique did not (for me) really turn out looking like Lenin. Thought, I will keep it in my stash. Because, it is beautiful. We had fun stamping and creating backgrounds for future cards. I loved all the chatting and catching up, it is always the best part!

There is a beautiful stamp set in the annual catalog that will have you dreaming of mermaids… The Magical Mermaid stamp set is just one of the most gorgeous sets I have ever seen. The mermaid is so perfectly drawn and lends its self to all sorts of coloring. Especially, watercolor!

Magical Mermaid

The Stampin’ Up! samples for this set are just so perfect. They used the little mini mermaid for gift tag. How cute would that be for a pool party or beach party. It is paired with a card that is watercolors that brings all the magic of the mermaid to life.

I love how clean and fresh these samples are. They are just so awesome! The stamp set is so pretty that it takes so very little effort to make it look amazing! And as stampers we love this!

  • For the background Take a piece of tissue paper and stamp all over it with a “texture like stamp” I used the stamp that had little crabs and shells mixed with sand and the dotted texture stamp that is like water bubbles. The crab and shells stamp I stamped in Pool Party. The Texture stamp I stamped in Tranquil Tide
  • At this point you take the tissue paper and wad it up into a ball. Then un-wad it. This adds lots of texture to the tissue paper
  • Then I started to decide on a background color to admire my tissue paper to. This is when, I decided that the pool party stamping really did not show up on the tissue paper. So, I sat a few minutes and decide to re-stamp the crabs and shells in versamark and use silver embossing powder. this turned out beautifully, but you really can’t tell that they are crabs and shells
  • The next step is to add the sea weed in Tranquil Tide
  • I decided to use Bermuda Bay as my background. I added glue from a glue stick to the front on the panel and adhered the tissue to that. Then flipped it over and attached the tissue to the back of the panel
  • The next step was to and silver embossing to the edges of the panel and to the Berry Burst layer with the texture stamp.
  • On a piece of shimmery white paper silver emboss the Mermaid. Then using Berry Burst, Flirty Flamingo, Powder Pink, So Saffron, Daffodil Delight, and Peekaboo Peach watercolor the mermaid with a aqua painter.
  • Then after the mermaid is dry, fussy cut the mermaid out.
  • The sentiment is stamped in Berry Burst on shimmery white and layered with an embossed sliver layer and Tranquil Tied.
  • The sentiment and the mermaid are popped up with dimensionals
  • And finally add a few metallic enamel shapes.

Lemon Zest what fun!

The Lemon Zest Stamp Set is full fun! Awesome sentiments and a beautiful lemon or lime. Then to top it off a slice that could be a lemon, lime, or orange.  This set is perfect for Summer time card making. I love the “fresh feel” .

I really love how the sentiments work together.  “if life gives you lemons” …”squeeze it for all it’s worth”  Then there is ” Life’s short” …”live it with zest” …how adorable both these are. I can’t wait to use them!!!

If you have been following my post lately, then you know I am having loads of fun with the new Pattern Party Decorative Mask and Embossing Paste.  I think these are my two favorite new products! Love them both. Today, I am using the small diamond shaped stencil with Lemon Lime Twist embossing paste.

  •  Stampin’ Up! has even given us a punch for the lemon and the leaves…
  • The colors used are Tranquil Tide, Lemon Lime Twist, and So Saffron
  • The embossing paste is tented using the Lemon Lime Twist reinker.

The Lemon Zest stamp set is offered in a bundle along with the coordinating punch. This bundle saves you 10%!!!  Whoop Whoop!!!

I just love this sample from Stampin’ Up! So pretty with all the layers of texture they created. With the embossed background, the banner and circle layer, and then the lemons.
