Wings of nature monoprints

Hi! guys, I’m back today with another set of monoprints.  I am super excited to share these prints with you!  I used the mono prints as backgrounds for butterflies and dragonflies!  Such fun. I made these prints at the same time as the ones I shared earler this week. Actually, I used the same stamps for the printing process, Butterfly Basics.  Then, I added some extras to the prints.

Butterfly Basics Stamp Set

This set is one of my all time favorites! As I mentioned, Sunday it was time to give it some love!!

  • Each print has its own unique feel.  Yet all three work so well together.
  • The guilding and stamping on top of the prints give them an extra special feel

These prints were made very similarly to the original monoprints, used a Gelli Plate to create the prints.

  • The paper is mixed media paper and is taped with painters tape to create a border
  • The colors used are Pool Party, Crushed Curry, and Dapper Denim
  • The process is a layering of Gelli prints to create a depth of color and texture.
  • The Dragonfly is stamped in Dapper Denim. This is from the Dragonfly Dreams Stamp set

  • This print is accented with stamping and guilding.  After the print was completed, I added additional stamping to add even more texture.
  • Even more texture was added with glue and guilding. (mixed metal leafing)
  • The butterfly was guilded. I love using the multipurpose adhesive sheets for this process.  It makes leafing so easy with die cuts
  • The colors are Dapper Denim, Pool Party, and Crushed Curry

  • This print is just two colors, Dapper Denim and Pool Party
  • There are a few leaves peeping through from the Oh So Eclectic stamp set.
  • The small dragonflies are from the Touches of Texture stamp set.  They are stamped in Dapper Denim
  • Little secret, I originally was not going to use this print. It was a slight bit crucked. Then I thought. Add some guilding.  So, I did…this led to the two prints above. Witch I love!
  • The two large dragonflies add a little extra special feel, especially with all the guilding in the background

If you would like to know more about the actual printing process check out this post!  It explains the steps of the printing process. I didn’t want to repeat what I had just told you on Sunday! But, I sure did want you to see these beautiful prints.

Christmas in July for Inking Royalty Blog Hop

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s July Blog Hop!  It’s Christmas in July, and today’s Blog Hop is filled with projects inspired by … you guessed it … Christmas!  What fun!  Although Stampin’ Up!’s 2017 Holiday Catalog will be released to demonstrators this week (we can’t wait to share that with you), our Annual Catalog is filled with fun, festive and beautiful ways to make Christmas special.  We are excited to share our creations with you today.  After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

I am so loving all the Christmas products in the annual catalog! We have several stamps that carried over from last year’s holiday catalog. They are wonderful stamp set and I am so glad that they stayed around. I adore Flurry of Wishes, Christmas Pines, and Father Christmas just to name a few Then there are two new stamp sets that are just awesome! Merry Mistletoe and Nature Sings. There are a few other stamps that work well for the Holidays like At Home, Wats of Occasions, and Colorful Seasons. The stamp set I am loving the most right now for the Holidays is Carols of Christmas. It is being released in August! And it is awesome. The is set pairs with the card front builder dies! They are amazing as well. You can get this set now for FREE! When you join Stampin’ Up! In July. (more about this at the bottom of my post)

Carols of Christmas

Today I paired this with two stamps that are not Christmas related. But, end up making a fun and festive card. Fabulous Flamingo and Pop of Paradise. Both of these sets have one thing in common. Flamingos!!! I love Flamingos! They are just beautiful creatures.

Fabulous Flamingos Stamp Set

I Love this summery stamp set.  Click here to see another card featuring this stamp set.

Pop of Paradise Stamp Set

This was one of my favorite stamp sets from the 2016 Annual Catalog.  I am so very happy that it is back for another year.   Click here to see another card featuring this stamp set.

  • I stamped the flamingo from Fabulous Flamingo in Archival Basic Grey.  Then created a watercolor wash around the flamingo with Lemon Lime Twist ink.  The first layer was done with a really light wash of color.  Then I went back and added a second layer of color in some places.
  • The next step was to stamp the inside of the flaming in Flirty Flamingo
  • Then using a exact-o knife I made two slits and added the felt scarf using glue dots to keep the scarf in place.
  • The final touches was the sentiment, bakers twine, and the little holly cluster.  This is from the Carols of Christmas set.  I used Lemon Lime Twist marker and Flitry Flaming marker and colored the image then stamped it.

I love how this card came out so clean and simple.  It really is just fun to step out from time to time and experiment and see what you can come up with.  The second card.  I used the Flamingos from the Pop of Paradise stamp set and the ornaments from Carols of Christmas to create a little Christmas scene.  This reminds me of a big city Christmas window display.

  • This card was done in layers.  Each image was stamped with either Flirty Flamingo, Lemon Lime Twist, or Perfect Plum.
  • The second step was to then stamp each image with versa mark and heat embossed with clear embossing Powder.  Then Heat embossing each image.
  • The third step was to add the watercolor wash in Lemon Lime Twist
  • Then for a little interest I  stamped the Lemon Lime Twist and Perfect Plum ornaments a second time.  And die cut them out.  After die cutting them, I added them on top of the existing ornaments.  Either directly or by popping them up with a mini dimensional
  • The felt scarfs are add just like the other card.  I cut little slits in the paper to feed the felt through.  Then using glue dots to keep the scarfs in place.

I really enjoyed creating these whimsical Christmas Card.  It is always fun to look at your stamps and come up with something different.  I love looking at Instagram getting ideas for cards.  I have seen a few other cards similar to this which gave me the idea to try something different with these flamingos.

If you would like to see more of my adventures with stamping.  I would love for you to check out my Instagram.   I have been posting all month-long Christmas Cards for my Christmas in July theme.  You can fallow me at @westsidepaper

Tic Tac Toe Challenge #tttc03

The Tic Tac Toe Challenge is an all new stamping challenge based upon the tic tac toe board.  I chose to make a card that was blue, one layer, and yellow. Now those of you who know me, know that one layer is super hard for me!!!  But, I really wanted to use blue and yellow…

The new build a bike stamp set is amazing!!! I just love all the pieces you put together to make your very own bike. There is even a little puppy to ride on the back or in a basket.

I used my favorite Stampin’ Up! yellow Daffodil Delight and paired it with Dapper Denim. This color combination is just so happy!!!

  • Now you see, I did it!! One layer and cute as can be! It helps to have an awesome stamp set
  • The sentiment is from Happy Birthday Gorgeous
  • The balloons are apart of the Glamper Camper stamp set.
  • The two-step stamping gives you so many different color combinations

Thankful Thoughts for On Stage Swaps

On Stage was so much fun, I’m still not over the excitement.  I am super excited about the new catalog!  You are just going to love it :> Promise!!!! I am greatly missing all my friends.  So, I thought I would share just a few more pictures with you from that day.  How wonderful are all those smiles.  Just love these ladies so much.  Kim, Imogene, Pam, and Katie.

    fb_img_1478460498508

I got to sit with most of these ladies during the day. Also, included in our table was Bobby and Shawn.  (I missed getting a table shot, so you will just have to imagine they are in this group.  We chatted about what we liked, what excited us the most, lost samp blocks, found stamp blocks, all in all fun!!! I really enjoyed seeing what excited each person the most from the upcoming Occasions Catalog.  Everyone was different, which I loved seeing.   The day was also filled with lots of swag.  20161105_143132

    And Shawn

And Bobby with her amazing smile.

One of the things I loved most about On Stage was everyone’s smiles.  We all mingled around and swapped cards with each other.  This was lots of fun for Kim.  I let her swap my cards. I know, Right????  Everyone was swapping early in the morning and I just was not awake enough to engage with people yet.  Thought, throughout the day people were stopping buy tables swapping cards.  How fun!!!!  For my swap cards I did a little retro technique with a modern twist.  I will fully confess that this technique was not my idea.  My friend, Lydia at Understan Blue did this very technique several weeks ago.  When I saw the video, I just know I had to try it!

    20161110_145709

I just love how the colors mix using shaving cream, a credit card, ink, and a stencil.  I was so excited about getting to play with shaving cream that I stole Mike’s Barbasol.  And about 1/2 way through the day I was really wishing it was unscented.  Waite and buy some unscented shaving cream!  Trust me…. When I do a technique like this I make loads and loads of paper.  It just is not worth getting everything out just for one card.  And besides you will be having so much fun that stopping will be the real issue.  I followed Lydia’s instructions as well as I could.  It is best to just try  it out and see.  Then go from their.  After the shaving cream got really mixed up.  I would switch over and make some marbled cards using the shaving cream technique we all know and love.  I really like how the shimmery white paper reacts with the ink.  It just adds a little something something.

The colors were really interesting to watch as they  would go from really bright and bold to soft and muted.  Both were beautiful.  I used Crushed Curry, Dapper Denim, and Cajun Craze.  I tried to keep the Dapper Denim and Cajun Craze from mixing too much.      Once the shaving cream turned a brown color I quit using it.  And started over.  When making a bold paper it is best to keep the rest of the card clean and simple.  I really wanted the stenciling to shine.  So I finished the card off with the Layering Ovals, some card layers, and a simple scripted thank you.

I love how the colors soften as you work with the shaving cream.  That minty color is amazing!!!!!20161112_102243

This card I scraped off the shaving cream   immediately after stenciling .  You can see how it makes the background  look  atmospheric.

The marbled paper was so hard to cut.  But, after coming up with a design that would alow the paper to shine, I was able to cut the paper.  Yea Me!!!!  Letting go of pretty paper can be one of the hardest things to do.

20161112_102301We all love color inspiration and finding new combinations of colors.  Hear is a pinable that you can share on Pintrest!  This color combination would make wonderful fall cards using a die as a stencil.  (something like the leaflets….hint hint)slide1

This is Lydia’s video so you can see just how amazing and quick this technique is!

Thanks for stopping buy today.  I sure hope you will give the Shaving Cream technique a second chance.  It is quite fun and wonderful.  I love how it looks with stencils.  I hope each of you have a blesses Sunday!

    Much Love,
