Spring has sprung…

Spring is just around the corner! Here in Alabama the trees are beginning to bloom and all the early spring flowers are up, daffodils, tulips, and others.  We had a warm February that got things rolling towards an early spring .But, old man winter is not through with us yet . The mornings have been cold (Alabama cold, mind you) and crisp . The birds are chirping there happy songs and the Pals are hopping along .

Welcome to the Pals March 2018 Blog Hop. Our theme this month is “Spring has Sprung”. The Stampin’ Pretty Pals will inspire you with Spring or Spring-related projects. You may see floral, Easter or other general Spring-inspired designs. You may be just starting or hopped over from another Pal. In either case you’ll find the line-up toward the end of my post to help you move along.

I love this time of the year when the birds start chirp their happy song.  It means Spring is right around the corner! One stamp set in the Occasions Catalog brings all the spring Birds home!  Flying Home makes me think about all the migrating birds flying back to their favorite backyard bird houses.

Flying Home Stamp Set

I think this may be the sweetest stamp set I have ever seen!   It just screams cute!!  In some ways it is very retro . In other ways it has a modern feel . So, as it once was said… what once was old is new again!

  • The bird houses were stamped with memento ink. Then colored with the Stampin’ Blends. Often I use my Prisms Color Markers along with the Blends .But, lately I have been trying to just use my Blends .
  • The card base is from Sale-A-Bration .The Tutti Frutti card bases and envelopes!  These card bases and envelopes are amazing! I love the colors . And the patterns make it easy to add anything you want on top!
  • The Hello is from Banners For You

The next two cards are actually the inspiration to create the card above as a clean and straight lined version!  Not all cards have to have lots of texture to be beautiful!  I love the straight forward version above as much as I love the full of layers and texture versions below!!!   All three cards could be made either way and still be beautiful!

  • Layers of texture are  like the branches, twigs, and twine that birds gather to build a nest. Layers of twine, ribbon, and vellum come together to build a backdrop for a sweet nest of birds
  • The stamped image is once again colored with the blends . To be honest, this would be a great set to also color with the. Stampin’ Write markers . The images for the most part are small enough that streaking is not an issue if you work fast . So, please do not feel that you must have Stampin’ Blends to color these images
  • The Hello Friend is from the Stamp Set A Good Day!

  • Yet again lots of layers and texture
  • The flower and the vellum leaves are from the dies May Flowers .These dies are perfect for all your Spring crafting needs
  • The flower and the vellum leaf are steeped up a bit .  I used my Stampin’ Blends in the light Daffodil Delight to quickly color both .
  • The sentiment is from the Perennial Birthday Stamp set . It was to long for the space .So, I simply cut it in half . That was after trying several , and I mean SEVERAL different options . Finally, yesterday morning it just came together like magic .
  • The final touch was to add the enamel shapes

I always live decorating my envelopes! The Tutti Frutti envelopes are so pretty it really does not take much to add a little something special to them.  I used the little small birds and butterfly’s in the Flying Home set to add the extra touches for my envelopes

Watercolor squares for a quick graphic card…

I have been using the watercolor pencils a lot lately! I love how easy they make watercoloring. I spend a lot of time playing with these pencils to learn more about how to use them. One of the things I do most when practicing or learning a new watercolor us to color in basic shapes…Really, I do this with any new coloring medium. Last summer I took a copic coring class and we spent hours coloring sphears and squares before we ever started coloring things…It is good to know how to color basic shapes because, most things can be broken down into shapes. And If you know how to color the shape then you can apply that to the object. Anyway, thats enough color theory for today.

When I practice basic shapes, I always make graphic based cards from the practice.

Recently, I have been using dies as a template for this play/practice. They are the perfect little thing to make ovals, squares, and circles.  My favorite right now is the layering squares.  I seem to be reaching for them constantly….  So, you guys will see them even more in the coming weeks?

  • pick one of the layering squares dies and trace it onto watercolor paper.
  • Color in the areas you want to be darker.
  • Using a aqua painter move the color around and paint in the square
  • Repeat for each square
  • After they dry stamp with Thank You from Sale-A-Bration.
  • Finally, add layers and card base…
  • If you are really careful and do not use a lot pf water you can make matching envelopes

This card is perfect for creating sets!

I love how these turn out! And it was a great way to play and learn a little bit more about how amazing our watercolor pencils are!!!

This Sale-A-Bration set is still available when you purchase $50 worth of product you can pick this as your FREE set!!!

I hope you guys have a great day!!! And that you get to be creative!!! Pull those watercolor pencils out and practice (I mean play) with them…it want take long and they will be your favorite coloring medium!!!   Have fun with it!!!!

Peace and Much Love,

Jennifer

Food Truck on the run!

The food truck pheomenon has taken the US by storm over the past several years.  Lets be honest. They have allways been around in some form.  From the street vinder serving hot dogs to the tamale truck .  I recent years food trucks have been glorified with tv shows like Food Truck Faceoff. Lest be honest thought, you must really love cooking to spend your days cramped up in a hot truck you can bairly move around in…and most of them have two or three people in this space…I bet, things get headed from time to time….as a food service worker myself. I know we are a passionate group of people and most of us love the people we work with. So sometimes things get a little roughty…anyway, I bet it  hot, hard work, tiring, and intresting to work in such small spaces…I would need a excape hatch!!!!   I could push a button and it would open and  easly excape…like Inspector Gadget. Now that could be fun!  If you want to experence the food truch world check out this fabulous Sale-A-Bration stamp set Tasty Trucks! FREE with a $50 purchase

Today’ s card is a CASE card! I love CASEing cards! It makes the design process easer!  Whenever I can’t decide what, to do I start CASEing cards.  98% of the time it leads me to other ideas!!!! My friend Robbye sent me a picture of a card she was working on. I loved it so much that I had to make my own version of the card. I changed up the card colors some. And where I used paper to creat some interest she used bakers twine to do the same.

The truck is stamped in tuxedo black by Memento. I used this ink becaues I was going to do a little coloring with the prismacolor markers.

  • This ink does not react with the alcohol in the markers. So you have a crisp image when you are though coloring.
  • I added a line at the bottom to ground the truck.
  • I used the same color at the top to make raceing stripes

This little food truck just looks like it is running away to me!! I’m not completely sure where or what it is running from but, boy  he sure is going! He is even blowing a little smoke out the tail pipe. …I guees he could be russing to feed people but, we all know thats not near as much fun?

Being apart of the InKing Royalty is loads of fun!  I have mentioned to you several times that I have a friend that I bounce ideas off of! They are a Royal! I could not make half of what I create without them in my life… Robbye is a Royal and she sent me a picture and it helped me be more creative! And thats what it is all about after all. Friends helping and inspering each other to be creative.

Global Design Project color challenge #gdp021

I am loving the colors for this weeks color challenge over at Global Design Project!  Brian did a great job picking out these fab. colors!!!!  They remind me of a soda shop or maybe a old time ice cream shop.   I like to call this type of color palette “bubble gum”  GDP021

I started working on several ideas I had for this color challenge.  Butterfly’s came to mind as one Idea.  Then, I was flipping through some of the paper from Sale-A-Bration and thought….Hummm….. maybe I should color that while I decide what to do with my butterfly’s.  I even did a little ink test on some new watercolor paper  in thinking about this card.   So, I was coloring and thinking….And in my coloring (for the new 30 day color challenge)  I found my cards main focus..

The Botanical Gardens Designer Series Vellum is so very pretty.  And even better it colors beautifully with the Many Marvelous Markers by Stampin’ Up!  IMAG2815

The card base is Basic Black cut at 5 1/2 inches and scored at 4 1/4 inches.  I colored the Vellum using Melon Mambo, Bermuda Bay, and Wisteria Wonder markers.  The layers are Melon Mambo (5 3/8 by 4 1/8( and Bermuda Bay 5 1/4 by 4).  The sentiment  a happy hello is from Tin of Cards stamp set.  After stamping the sentiment in Basic Black on the Bermuda Bay layer, I tore the three top layers  (Melon Mambo, Wisteria Wonder, and Vellum) to add contrast and interest.   Then layered them over the Bermuda Bay layer.  Using the Melon Mambo and the Wisteria Wonder markers I added a little distressing to the tearing layers.

IMAG2813

A few tips:

  • coloring vellum really makes the beauty of the design shine.  After coloring this vellum, I layered it on each color before deciding witch to adhere it to!  I picked the one I felt made the vellum design shine.  You, many decide another color is your favorite.  Go with what you like the best :>
  • When adding vellum to card stock be sure to use a adhesive that will not warp the vellum.  I used multipurpose glue.  I add a small dot of glue to the card stock and then spread it out with my finger.  Then add the vellum on top.
  • The Black as a base really makes this color combination pop!  Be sure you are using neutrals that are best for your color combination!!!
  • Be sure to decorate the inside of your card.  Especially when you are using a very dark card base….this really makes the card extra specialIMAG2814

Here is the supply list:

Also, don’t forget to go over to Global Design Project and see all the Fab. projects that the Design Team has created and the projects by all those playing along….And you still have a little time to play along also…So go and create something wonderful…and color everyday….it’s good for you
Much Love,

Jennifer
