Thankful Thoughts with the Inking Royalty

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s October Blog Hop!  There are so many ways to say, “Thank you!” – today’s blog hop is filled with projects that share our gratitude.  Stampin’ Up!’s catalogs (both the Annual Catalog and the Holiday Catalog) are filled with so many fun products that help us show our gratitude – and we are excited to share our creations with you today.  After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

There are so many things in life to be thankful for, friends, family, a job you love, having time to create.  My Inking Royalty friend are some of my most cherished friendships. Living the creative life connects us in a truly unique way. We share what we have made with each other, we encourage each other,  we support each other, and we celebrate accomplishments with each other! The Royals are truly awesome people. I have said many times before that one of the things I love most about the card making world is the amazing sense of community.

One of my most recent purchases was the all New Stampin’ Blends (alcohol markers) and the Color Me Happy Project Kit (Available Nov.1)   The Stampin’ Blends are a must have coloring tool. And the new Limited Time, Color Me Happy Kit and Stamp Set are just awesome.  I loved one of the card designs so much I decided to CASE it today!

  • I love the simple design with the diagonal cut paper
  • I love the touch of metallic
  • And I adore the pretty envelopes

I decided to take these elements and make them into two cards for you today! For the first card I used the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper and the Painted Harvest Stamp Set.  Both of these are perfect for fall cards.

  • The colors used are Cajun Craze, Peekaboo Peach, Chocolate Chip, Sierra Sand, and Soft Suede
  • For the touch of metallic I used copper foil paper.
  • To make the diagonal Designer Series Paper, I cut a piece of the Painted Autumn paper to 4 by 41/4 inches. Then I cut from one side to the point of the paper on the opposite end.

  • For the envelope I used the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper on the flap.
  • The Painted Harvest stamp set was used on the form of the envelope

There are many “mistakes” in this card and the envelope. The stamping is most definitely not perfect. But, I decided to share it with you as is. So you would know stamping and creating is not an art of being perfect! It is about creating something to share with others.  The recipient will never know you stamped the acorns a bit two far apart or that the sunflowers are not aligned up right.  They are going to see a beautiful card!

The next card, I decided to flip the diagonal, use stamps that I could color with the blends to create my own designer series paper, and change-up the size of the sentiment.  You can still see the inspiration in the card design. It just takes CASEing a little further from an exact copy.

  • The colors used are Whisper White, Night of Navy, So Saffron, and Silver Foil
  • On the Whisper White I stamped in tuxedo black memento ink the Paisley and Poses stamps
  • They are colored with the new Stampin’ Blends. Colors used Light and Dark Night of Navy, Light Daffodil Delight, and Light Smoky Slate
  • I used the fine tip nib with a very small circular motion to create a smooth coloring with the Stampin’ Blends. Then when I had very little space to work I used a very light touch when adding color.

  • The envelope is also stamped with the Paisley and Poses stamp set.  Then colored with the Stampin Blends
  • A strip of silver foil was added to the top of the flap
  • When coloring with the blends on the thin envelope paper, I use a piece of scrap paper between the layers of the envelope

I can’t tell you how much I have enjoyed using the Stampin’ Blends. They are awesome in coloring. They make blending two colors together a breeze. Or you can use them as single colors like I did to get an even colouring!  I’m so excited about having alcohol markers in Stampin’ Up! colors. These wonderful markers will be available November 1!!!

A simple and sweet cat to welcome fall

There is this one product in every catalog that I just am over the moon about. Then I get it in my hands and it is just like life was ment to be.  The cat punch in the Holiday Catalog is defiantly a keeper and everyone must have it.  Don’t give me I’m not a cat person. It really does not matter of you are a cat person! The real question is are you an adorable cuteness person! I think we all love adorable cuteness!!!

Spooky Cat Bundle

Let’s take a moment and talk about this adorable bundle before we get to my card for the day.  This is such a fun bundle not only do you get the cat punch, the stamp set has a great cat that is full of Halloween words. The owl is awesome.  And you get eyes for the cat. So you can make a cat any color you would like and give him eyes.  I defiantly suggest that you not only get the cat punch but that you bundle the punch with the stamp set and save 10%.  It is well worth it!!!

I love these adorable treat boxes from the Holiday Catalog. Look at how simple is to make awesome Halloween treats!!

So, I love all the Halloween goodness of the black cat! Or little black cat is the epitome of a scaredy cat.  Anyway, I wanted to do something that was not Halloween but, still fall wonderfulness! I decided on a simple watercolor wash and a fall cat punched with the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper.

Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper

I guess you have figured out by now that I love this paper! I promise I will use something different soon! I just can’t get enough of Painted Autumn!!!!

  • The watercolor  is Night of Navy on watercolor paper. It is a very simple wash with lots of water added to the ink.
  • The cat is punched with the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper. Then I punched out three cats in Cajun Craze. I glued all of them together making one cat
  • The sentiment is from??? You guessed it Merry Café. I masked the sentiment to only use the Hello Fall
  • The final touch was a few sequins from the Bright Sequin Assortment

I love this side shot! It shows you how nicely the punch stacks to make a very special element for a card! Truely, card making could not get any easier. Punch a cat four times, glue them together, add a sentiment all on a simple watercolor background!! The absolute final touch was to add matching Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper to the flap of the envelope!

A pouch box and a mini treat pocket

This is such a fun time of the year! Football, pumpkins, hot tea, and of course coffee.  I decided to celebrate the upcoming fall season with two sets of cards and a pocket box to hold them. These will make great little gifts for friends! I can’t wait to share them with my coffee loving friends. While I had my supplies out, I also made a mini pocket for at treat such as Ghirardelli squares.

To make these pocket boxes I decided to use the Merry Café set in the Holiday Catalog. This set is just wonderful! It is full of goodies for fall café cards and Christmas café cards. It is jam-packed with sentiments, and little stamps to decorate your coffee/tea cups up! I love all the detail stamps included in this set.

Merry Café

This super cute set was paired with the Coffee Café stamp set and the  Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper. This paper is quickly becoming a favorite! I seem to be reaching for it all the time! I just love the patterns in this paper

The card pocket is a case from fellow demonstrator, Kelly Acheson at A Stamp Above. When I saw Kelly’s pocket I thought it looked familiar, that’s because my friend Julie DiMatteo at the Paper Pixie had made a mini version of the pocket fold.  She is an origami genius!! I love all of her boxes and mini projects.

I have several pictures for you today of the process of making the pocket fold box.  But, make sure you check out Julie’s and Kelly’s blog post. They both have great videos that show you exactly how to make the card. Kelly’s pocket fold box.  Julie’s mini pocket treat holder.

The first thing I did was make a template that I can keep of this pocket box. The card pocket box and the treat pocket box are made exactly the same. They are different sizes and held together differently!  So, I gathered my supplies which includes 12 x 12 paper, multipurpose glue, a bone folder, and a score board

After you have gathered your supplies then you will want to cut your paper down to 7 1/2 by 12 inches. Then you will use your score board to do some scoring.

You will score at

  • 1 7/8 and 5 5/8 on the short side (7 1/2)
  • 5 5/8 and 6 3/8 on the long side (12)

You will want to burnish each score line with the bone folder.  After burnishing you will want to fold it like above.  Then you will take your finger and hold it at the crease where the score line meats the folded edge.

With your other hand you will pull back the score line to line up with the folded paper. And score on the diagonal line created.

You will want to do this process on all four sides. So that you end up with something that looks like the below picture.

This shows you the basic form of the pocket box.  All that is left is to make the top of the box and to glue the sides down. The top of the box is as follows.

  • The paper is cut at 4 3/4 x 3 3/4 inches.
  • Score at 1 inch and 3 3/4 inches on the long side (4 3/4 side)

You will want to burnish the two score lines. Then you will glue down one of the scored sections.

I used my template to decide which way to cut the designer series paper. In this case the florals were cut so that they run up the top of the pouch box. So the 4 3/4 inches side is the side and the 3 3/4 edge was the top of the paper.

The second scored section is glued in between the layers of the pouch box. This connects your top to the actual box.

To connect the lid with the box use multipurpose glue and glue down the flaps of the box. Be sure not to add glue to the section that makes the pouch.  You will finish the pouch by glueing down each long fold as shown above.

Here is a picture of the inside of a completed pouch box!

Each of the card pouches will have four matching card on the very vanilla Notecard and envelopes.   I also decorated the outside if the pouch boxes

Tomorrow I will share more about how I made these adorable little note cards.

  • The colors used are Cajun Craze, Soft Sky, and Chocolate Chip
  • The box is decorated with the linen thread, the Labels to Love stamp set (and everyday label punch) , and the heart in Coffee Café.

  • The colors used are Cajun Craze, Daffodil Delight, and basic black
  • The sentiment is from Merry Café. how fun is that sentiment. Bellow fall the pumpkin spice latte season
  • The Daffodil Delight layer was added by making a second top to the pouch box then adding it to the original top.  I did this as an afterthought so, I did have to cut one end down so it would fit

  • The size of the mini version is made with  4 x 6 paper
  • Scored at 1 inch and 4 inch and 3 inch on the short side (4 inch)
  • Score at 2 3/4 inches and 3 1/4 inches on the long side (6 inch)
  • I used the scalloped tag topper to make the ribbon slot at the top of the card
  • The burnishing and glueing is the same as above. You just don’t have to add the top because it is held together by ribbon

Painted Harvest Mini

I have a fun quick little mini card for you guys today.  I am still enjoying using the Painted Harvest stamp set.  The flowers in the set are sunflowers, which I love! They are such happy awkward flowers.

Painted Harvest

I love the layered look you get with this two-step flower!  Th leaves and fern also can be used as layering stamps. The cool thing is that they also look great as stand alone stamps.

Mini cards are really popular right now!  especially, with the 3×3 envelopes back in the Holiday Catalog.  To make a mini 3×3 card you will need to cut your card stock down to 3 by 7.  You will want to score at 3 inches on the long side.  Then burnish the score line with your bone folder.  Now you have the most adorable little mini card!

  • The colors used are Daffodil Delight and Rose Red. I don’t use Rose Red very often, but it is really a wonderful pinky red
  • The white layer is Glossy White. I stamped the Daffodil Delight layer then stamped the Rose Red layer.  It takes a few minuets for the ink to dry on the Glossy paper
  • While the ink was drying, I cut a piece of Daffodil Delight to 1/2 inch. Then stamped the sentiment from Wood Words in Rose Red
  • The final touch was to add a little ink splatter in Daffodil Delight

You guys know I love to decorate my envelopes, so I used the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper to add a little color to the envelope flap

At Home with you sweet puppy

It is always a sweet moment when a friend brings a new pet home.  A friend recently got a new puppy.  So, of course I had to make them a card that will go along with a gift from my favorite pet store. Come Sit Stay in Nashville, Tn.  This store is amazing and the owner Robin always knows just the right gift! She is amazing at what she does. So when you are in Nashville be sure to stop by her store! You want be disappointed!

For the card, I used the stamp set bundle At Home With You! This set is super fun! I love the door and all the seasonal decorations!!

At Home With You Bundle

I love the classy modern feel of this stamp set!!! How fun is it to have a beautiful door to decorate.

  • Each element was stamped and then watercolored using watercolor pencils and ink refills.
  • Then using the coordinating dies, each element was cut out
  • The background is the brick walls embossing folder and the Painted Autumn Designer Series Paper(available Sep. 1)
  • The door has a special die that cuts it on three sides allowing the door to open.
  • That cute little dog is from the build a bike bundle. Is he not just adorable in front of the door…

The door opens up for a sweet message. That was created using a little masking, stamp surgery (yes I cut a sentiment in half ?…it will be okay ?. I put him back together with ❤ …?), and the Brushwork Alphabet set.
