Bon Voyage Retiring In-Colors

Stamping Blog Hop

Welcome to the Remarkable InkBig Blog Hop for April 2018. This month our theme is Bon Voyage Retiring In-Colors!  You may just be starting the blog hop here at my blog – Jennifer Spiller at Westside Paper Creations or may have come from the person previous to me on the list. If you get off track at any time, the full lineup below will help you move along from blog to blog so you see all the projects.

Bon Voyage 2016-2018 In-Colors you will be missed

I have so enjoyed using these beautiful In-Colors. In so many ways, I’m kinda sad to see them go…on the other had I am super excited about all the New Colors coming soon in the Annual Catalog .  More about that on another day!  Today, we are saying Bon Voyage to the retiring In-Colors, which includes Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy, Sweet Sugarplum, and Peekaboo Peach.  Flirty Flimango is also part of this color family. But, it is staying around for a few more years! Yeppie for that!!  I decided that the Faux Batik technique would be perfect to show off the beauty of this In-Color collection . I just pulled out a bunch of stamp sets and started playing with the technique .Then when I was finished I made a few cards out of the panels.  This technique works best with stamps that have more of a solid image. If you would like to know more about Faux Batik check out this post here.

Faux Batik

  • The colors used for the Faux Batik effect are Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum
  • The stamps came from Petal Passion, Painted Harvest, and Oh So Eclectic stamp sets
  • I liked the Faux Batik so much I decided to keep the card quite simple so it could shine
  • The silver thread and copper thread adds a little texture without taking away from the background

The Faux Batik effect was created by

  1. Stamping and heat embossing images onto tissue paper
  2. Layering the tissue paper over a piece of Shimmery White paper .
  3. Using a baby  wipe sponge color onto the tissue paper.
  4. The color will transfer to the paper everywhere you add ink except in the embossed areas .
  5. To learn more about the Faux Batik technique, check out this post!  To see other Faux Batik cards click here and here

Faux Batik

  • This background is made with Dapper Denim and three different sizes of circles. One from Waterfront , One from Oh So Eclectic, and One from Painted Harvest
  • Where you can see the ink went over some circles. That is because I layered my embossed tissue paper to create the effect .
  • The word celebrate is layered up by stacking three Dapper Denim one Peekaboo Peach on top. The adhesive sheets makes this process super easy

Faux Batik

  • These little trees from the Waterfront set are perfect for the Faux Batik technique!
  • This time I used Emerald Envy and Peekaboo Peach to creat the Batik effect
  • After it dried, the trees were cut out with the Stiched Shapes Dies
  • Layering with crumb cake and the Seaside Embossing Folder
  • The dollie was sponged with both Emerald Envy and Peekaboo Peach

Which is what I have been doing most of the day! Yesterday, was lovely here as we spent the afternoon at St. Bernhard in Cullman at their annual Blooming Festival.  Blooming Festival

Feather Together

I loved yesterday’s Inking Royalty blog hop! It was so much fun hopping with my stamping friends.    If you would like to see the Fall Fav. Hop click here.   What awesome fall inspiration was shared!

My card for you today is a Faux Batik card using the Feather Together Stamp Set.  I love feather stamps. And have owned several over the years.  This one is just extra lovely to me!

Feather Together

This is a stamp layering set.  So you can layer the stamps to make a feather that looks like it has dimension.

Faux Batik is one of those techniques that I just can’t get enough of right now! I am just loving it!

  • The colors used are Always Artichoke, Bermuda Bay, and Crushed Curry
  • I picked three of the feather layers and heat embossed them onto tissue paper for the Faux Batik technique.
  • I taped a border using painters tape on shimmery white paper
  • After adding the embossing to the tissue, lay the tissue over your paper (shimmery White in this case)  and use a baby whips to add color to the tissue.  This will “transfer” the image to the card.
  • The sentiment is heat embossed with copper embossing powder
  • The copper foil and the Smoky Slate card base lightens up the card! This make the feathers pop!

Faux Batik with the Flirty Flowers Stamp Set!

I have had so much fun playing with the Faux Batik technique over the past couple of weeks.  And,  I’m so very excited to show you how to achieve beautiful Batik with stamped images.  My friend, and Inking Royalty Team Leader, Brian King invited me to be a Guest Stamper on his blog.  Thank You Brian, for this awesome opportunity!!!   I am truly honored to be a Guest on your blog and apart of the Inking Royalty.  And Thank you to all of those who have hopped over from his blog to see more detail about the Faux Batik process.

Batik is a wax resist that is used for fabric dyeing.  The process of Batik can also be used in other mediums, such as rice paper watercolor.  I fallow a lot of artist on Instagram. It is one of the places that I go to for inspiration.  One of the artist, Emily Jeffords, that I fallow has been doing a lot with Batik and painting.  Her batiks are amazing.  And made me want to try to make something similar for cards.

For the Faux Batik technique, I have found that it works best with stamped images that are more solid.  Verses ones that have lots of details or are sketchy looking.   Batiking is a very organic looking process.  There for flowers and leaves are really beautiful with the Faux batik.  The Flirty Flowers stamp set is just perfect.

This stamp set is so happy and the flowers have such a fresh feel.

Today,  I am sharing details for the Faux Batik techniques with you.  Also, at the bottom of the post is a video if you would like to see the technique in action.  If you have any questions about the technique  feel free to email me at westsidepapercreations@gmail.com  If you would like to see other cards featuring this technique click here and here

The first step is to gather up the supplies that you will need.   This includes tissue paper, shimmery white cardstock, versamark ink, embossing powder, embossing buddy, heat tool, inks of your choice, stamps, and baby wipes

After you have gathered up your supplies, the next step is to heat emboss a stamped image onto the tissue paper.  To do this you will need your versamark ink, embossing powder, embossing buddy,  and heat tool.  Be sure to use the embossing buddy first.  This will help keep stray embossing powder form sticking in unwanted areas.  After using the embossing buddy, you want to stamp the image with versamark, add the embossing powder, pour off any access powder, and heat set the image.

After you have the tissue paper embossed.  It is time to make a Batik image!! To do this you need to place the tissue paper over the  shimmery white card stock.

The next step is to start adding ink to the tissue paper with a baby wipe.  I work from lightest color to darkest color.  In this case Pool Party was the first color added .

This is what is should look simular to after adding the first color

Then, Pear Pizzazz

and Finally, Old Olive.

After adding the Old Olive ink.  You can go back to your lightest color and add more if you like.  The final step is to remove the tissue paper to reveal your Faux Batik

You can use your tissue paper more than once if you are using the same colors.  Also, do not throw your tissue paper away.  You can use this for another card showing off the pretty embossing.   I used silver embossing  powder for my card.  And I am planning a second card that uses the tissue paper layer.  I love the look of the metallic embossing powders with the ink around them.  Also, this technique works very well on Whisper White Card Stock.

When using a bold technique, like this Faux Batik, it is best to keep the rest of the card quite simple.  This allows for your handy work to shine.

  • After the Faux Batik has dried it is time to add a sentiment.  I chose one from the upcoming Holiday Catalog. This sentiment is in the Painted Harvest stamp set (available Sep 1) .  It is stamped in Early Espresso ink
  • The background is the pinewood Plank texture impression embossing folder.  Use the folder to emboss Early Espresso cardstock.  After embossing, I added some gold leafing to the texture.  This give it a shimmery weathered look.
  • The only thing left is to  put the card together and pop up the Faux Batik

This card is a standard A2 card (4 1/4 by 5 1/2) . The card base is made from a 8 1/2 by 11 Early Espresso cardstock cut in half at 5 1/2 inches on the 11 side and scored at 4 1/4 inches.  Each layer is as follows.   Pear Pizzazz 4 1/8 by 5 3/8 inches.  Early Espresso 4 by 5 1/4 inches and embossed with the pinewood planks embossing folder. Pear Pizzazz 3 1/4 by 4 5/8 inches .  Shimmery White with Faux Batik 3 1/8 by 4 1/2 inches

Sea Shells by the Sea Shore….

The Gulf Cost is one of the prettiest places I have ever been. I love the cost so very much. One of my absolute favorite things is to walk on the beach looking for Sea Shells. Seeing all the different colors, shapes, and sizes. Thinking about where they came from, how far the shells traveled. Who will they belong to next. Just so much glory in their being. This experience is just so very serial to me. Just being and enjoying the creation around us.

Stampin’ Up! has a great set that explores all the wonderfulness of Sea Shells called So Many Shells. This set is a two-step stamp set! But, I really think several of the shells would stand on their own perfectly!

This stamp is jam-packed with amazing sentiments! Witch gives you more bang for your buck. But, most of all it makes the set very vestal.

Stampin’ Up! has out done it’s self with the samples in the Annual catalog. This card is so beautiful. I love the embossing and the layering of textures.

CAS(E) this Sketch! has a fabulous clean and simple sketch that is AMAZING!!! Truly it is so very vestal! We all need to remember this sketch!!!!

This card features a technique that I have been working with for a few weeks.  It is a Faux Batik technique. Batik is a fabric dyeing technique that evolves wax to resist color during the dyeing process.  I will be sharing a video about this process in the near future.

  • For the Faux Batik layer I used the circles from the Playful Backgrounds Stamp Set with the colors Pool Party, Bermuda Bay, and Tranquil Tide
  • The round shell is stamped in Sahara Sand and Soft Suede.  The other shell is stamped in Powder Pink and Flirty Flamingo .  Each of the shells are fussy cut!  I love how easy these shells are to cut!!!!
  • What a fabulous sentiment Sea’s the Day is!  This sentiment is stamped in Soft Suede.
  • The card was brought together with a few glitter enamel dots and silver thread

I had so much fun making this card! And I am greatly looking forward to sharing more about this Faux Batik Technique with  you guys!  Make sure that you hop over to CAS(E) this Sketch!  to see all the beautiful samples the design team and those playing along have for you!
