Back to school for the Blogging Friends Blog Hop

Welcome to the August Blogging Friends Blog Hop. This month we are all sharing Back to School paper crafting using  Stampin’ Up! products.

I will be quite honest with you, this them had me stumped.  1. I don’t have stamp sets that are school-themed. I discovered this after going through my current stamp sets trying to decide what exactly I wanted to create.  I even tried to be creative and look at my stamps in a new way.  I wished many times that I had purchased the playful alphabet dies.  Cause, I had a great idea for those in my head.  2. I realized that I have been making a very big effort to not buy for the sake of collecting.  And the reality was I just don’t have a reason to purchase items that are school-oriented. Where I was really struggling was in the sentiment.  What does back to school say in 2020??? I could have easily made a cute little box or a fun fold but, if you know me  You know those are only things I do in my head.  The reality is I struggle daily to just get what has to be done done.  This is why you will see a basic card from me 98% of the time. All of this to say,  I can up with a wonderful idea after thinking about my options for several days!  In the end, I decided to pick a stamp set and then try and relate that to back to school. Mind you I was still pondering the sentiment???

The stamp set I landed on was field of flowers. I really adore the silhouette look of this stamp set.  And it has been sitting in my to use basket for a few months. So, it was definitely time to get it out!

Field of Flowers

One of the things that came to my mind was the time that my Mom (a science teacher) took me and my friend Holli to this field for our bug collections.  She gave us each a butterfly net, a jar with lid, and told us to not break the wings. And there we were two teenage girls running around trying to catch butterflies, dragonflies, and anything else we could find.  This is the thing I learned from that experience.  That my Mom did for us what she did for every one of her students.  She gave us all the tools we need to be successful with our bug projects then she let us choose to learn and be successful with our bug projects.  I remember growing up, bug collection time of year always had students around after school trying to identify that one big they just couldn’t figure out.  The kids would have books out, bug collections from past years, they would ask questions and get simple answers. Sometimes, the look would tell them all they needed to know.

Remembering all this brought me to thinking about the very unique school year we are about to embark on.  Teachers, parents, kids, and administration all trying to balance that fine line between health, education, and empowering kids.  I have no idea what I would do if I was in there situation.  I thought about how much our educators need our support and understanding.  As well as our parents who have chosen virtual,  blended, or homeschool as the best option for their family.  That’s when I know, this has to be thinking of you card.  Cause, that’s what 2020 demands. More strength, more hope, and more faith.

  • The background is created with some simple ink blending.  The sky, balmy blue, seaside spray, and blueberry bushel. I just keep playing with the colors until I got it how I liked.  The grass is call me clover and garden green
  • I used my heat tool to dry the background. This kinda helps set the ink. So, I could move on to the stamping
  • I did all the stamping in back. Night of Navy would have looked very nice as well
  • The thinking of you is from the seaside notions stamp set
  • I tried to go the opposite of the blue on the color wheel to add a little extra pop. My choice of orange was Calypso coral

Thank you for stopping by today and for sticking around through all my chat.

Christmas Cheer for Blogging Friends Blog Hop

Fall

I’m super excited that today is the Blogging Friends Blog Hop! Christmas Cards are one of my favorites to create! But, even more, exciting is that my friend Ann Murray, a fellow Inking Royal, is hopping along!!!  She is super talented!  I know you are just going to love her almost as much as I do!!

There is a huge resurgence in fiber arts.  Macrame, knitting, punch art, and cross-stitching are all Super popular. Wich only makes sense in all things the ’80s are back.  I grew up in the ’80s and I had friends who grew up doing these awesome crafts.  I learned to cross-stitch at a friend’s house. She helped me with my very first cross-stitch.  My mom made cross-stitch ornaments that I still hang on my Christmas tree each year.  The new found love of fiber arts was my inspiration for today’s creation.  That 80’s cross-stitch pattern…

Countdown to Christmas is one of the pretest stamp sets in the Holiday Catalog! Not only is it pretty, but it is also very versatile!  I can completely see using this set for envelopes, adding small accents to cards, and creating gift tags!

Countdown to Christmas

Countdown to Christmas stamp set by Stampin’ Up!

I completely love the vintage feel of this set!  It is classic yet modern. Just like today’s take on the fiber arts.  The two border-style stamps were just perfect to create a graphic background that is reminiscent of modern and vantage cross-stitch patterns

Christmas

  • The pattern was created using the two border stamps and inks Merry Merlot and Mossy Meadow
  • The sentiment is from Itty Bitty Christmas stamp set
  • The layers bring the card together

The second card takes the same stamp set and basic card idea but, yet creates a completely different card!  I have been itching to make a background using the greenery.

Christmas

  • The colors are classic Christmas Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, and Garden Green
  • The stitches rectangles add just the perfect touch of detail
  • The Itty Bitty Christmas getting stamp set really just perfect something for every card!

I completely enjoyed creating these cozy Christmas cards for you guys today!

It is all abot Fall!

Fall

The Blogging Friends are celebrating the upcoming fall with all the Awesome Stampin’ Up! products just perfect for all your fall crafting.

One of the things I am most excited about in the Holiday Catalog is that We Finally have a new set of stencils (Basic Patterns Decorative Mask)!!!  I have been having so much fun using them!

Basic Patterns Decorative Mask

Basic Patterns Decorative Mask

I love how stencils can add a lot of impact to small areas. Or they can work as a complete background!  And when you add ink and embossing paste the possibilities are endless!!

I have also been reaching for the Seasonal Wreaths Stamp Set a whole bunch!!  The sentiments in this set are just fabulous!!

Seasonal Wreaths

Seasonal Wreaths

I have not had the chance to use that adorable little bird or the pretty fall wreath. But, I’m sure looking forward to them!!

Happy everything

  • The background is watercolor using Cajun Craze and Crushed Curry ink refills.
  • Once the watercolor was dried I added embossing paste with mint macaron and call me clover ink refills.
  • The final steps were stamping the sentiment and mounting it with layers

Celebrate card

  • This card was made using the same steps as above.  I tried adding a little green watercolor on top of the stenciling and it seeped through.  Leaving a green watercolor look at the bottom of the card
  • The card base is Mossy Meadow. And the layer is Mint Macaroon.

All occasions card

  • The tree Decorative Mask is such fun!  I had a hard time getting the mask to say in place. To solve this. I added a little tombow glue to all the little pieces.  Let it dry. Creating a temporary adhesive.  This solved the moving issue!
  • The Stenciling was done with Old Olive ink.

The last card uses another one of my Absolutely Favorite items from the Holiday Catalog!  The Cups of Cheer Bundle

Cups of Cheer

Cups of Cheer Bundle

This stamp set makes my coffee-loving soul happy!!!  It is completely unique because two of the stamps stamp on both sides of the stamp.  That’s right!!!  You can make a left handle mug or a right handle mug from one stamp!!! How fun is that???

  • The first thing was to stamp and color the mugs.
  • The mug in the back was stamped in Early Espresso on shimmery white paper.  Then watercolored with Early Espresso ink.  After the watercolor was dried, I used one of the Decorative Mask to add some interest. The Old Olive ink shows up quite well on the light espresso watercolor
  • The mug in the front was stamped in Old Olive. Then it was watercolored with the Old Olive ink.  After the watercolor was dried it was time to add some stamping.  The fern was stamped in Early Espresso using the Tidings All Around Stamp Set
  • The Background is Gray Granet with Crumb Cake mixed with embossing paste on top.

I hope you will continue to hop along to see All The Fall inspiration!

Summer Lovin’

Today is the Blogging Friends hop! We are celebrating Summer!  The theme is Summer Lovin’…you got it right out of my favorite childhood movie Grease.  So, of course, I had to make a beach card for today hop!

Summer Lovin'

I had a bunch of ideas floating around in my head. One was to recreate the mood of the first scene in Grease. You know Danny and Sandy on the beach…

To create my scene I decided to do some watercolor.  For the watercolor, I just had to use the new Pigment Sprinkles.  Along with the new sprinkles, I used a few of the ink refills as watercolor. I just have to say, the new Pigment Sprinkles are so very vibrant!!!!

After picking what medium I was going to use for the background, I had to decide what stamps and dies to use!  My first choice was the Friend Like You bundle!  I knew that the palm tree die was a must.

Friend Like You Bundle

Friend Like You Bundle 10% savings

This bundle makes my heart so happy!!!  There are so many things to love!  The palm trees for one! The cattails (I have always loved cattails) Then you have awesome dies that can create really cool outdoor silhouettes.

Friend Like You

  • The first thing I did was to sprinkle out some pigment powders into a pallet. Then I added some water to make the fluid.
  • I watercolors the water using Blueberry Bushel ink refill and the Bermuda Bay pigment sprinkle.
  • As the water dried.  I started working on the sky, using Daffodil Delight and Mango Melody pigment sprinkles and the Calypso Coral ink refill.
  • There is this little strip of blue sky.  That was created with Smoky Slate and really watered down Bermuda Bay.
  • The specs of yellow on the water were a happy accident.  At one point I tried sprinkling some Daffodil Delight pigment.   And now we have a reflection of light…
  • The palm trees are pieced together from several leftover pigment powder test.

I completely hope you will give the Pigment powders a try!  They really make beautiful backgrounds and can be used for so many different ideas.

Verdant Garden say hello to Memorable Mosaic

The Blogging Friends are hopping today!  We are all sharing projects for the all-new Annual Catalog from Stampin’ Up!  This new catalog is just jammed packed with such wonderful stamps, inks, paper, and dies.  Our favorite things as a paper crafter!  I have been meaning to make a Birthday card for a sweet lady who has been a part of my life basically forever!!!  She is apart of so many of my childhood memories. So, when my Stampin’ Up! box was on my doorstep when I got home I know it was time to create!!!

Today, I decided to combine two of my favorite stamp sets Verdant Garden and Memorable Mosaic.  I absolutely love both of these stamp sets.   Even more, after getting them inky.   Verdant Garden is going to be so much fun to play with.   You guys know I love color and pattern!!! This stamp set allows you to play with all sorts of color combinations while creating a beautiful pattern!!  You can’t beat that in my book!

Memorable Mosaic is absolutely GORGEOUS!!!!   I adore the idea of the willow tree in a mosaic form! I can not wait to use the beautiful tree!  This stamp set is available as a bundle with the Timeless Punch.  The bundle is a 10% savings!!!  The sentiment “sending all the happiest wishes your way” was perfect for the birthday card I wanted to make!  This meant I got to use the new punch as well!!!  Yeppie!!!! little happy dance….

Memorable Mosaic

Memorable Mosaic Stamp Set

I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to using this stamp set in the future.  Let’s talk about how the color combination came about.  It was really easy, I know I wanted to use the Garden Lane Designer Series Paper.  Stampin’ Up! used the best of the best greens in this beautiful paper!!!  So, I had  Soft Seafoam, Mint Macaroon, Garden Green, and Mossy Meadow.  The next step was to add a pop of color!  I decided to use one of the new In Colors!  Because I wanted some contrast to all the green, I chose to use Terracotta Tile.  This red/orange makes the greens shine in all there glory!!!

Garden Lane

Garden Lane Designer Series Paper

Just look at that paper, does it not just make your heart go pitter patter.  All those lovely greens all together!!!   I so enjoyed making this card!  It had been so long since I had had the chance to be creative, I think my soul was itching for that creative outlet to be filled.  I did a little of everything, fussy cutting, coloring, paper cutting, layering of colors, coloring again, more fussy cutting,  and of course stamping!!!

Birthday

  • The first thing was to stamp the sentiment in Terracotta Tile. Then using the Timeless punch I punched it out
  • Next was stamping the vine and magnolia bud.  After they were stamped I colored and fussy cut them out.
  • Next was figuring out how to layer the vines and buds behind the sentiment. It was at this point I decided I need more buds. So, stamp, color, and fussy cut again … If you are going to do this much fussy cutting. You defiantly want the Stampin’ Up! paper snips
  • Now it was time to layer the papers and pop the sentiment up with dimensional
  • The final step was the envelope.  I love decorating envelopes. I’m particularly in love with how this turned out.

Here is a look at the Inside of the card and back of the envelope.  The inside sentiment is from the Well Said Stamp Set.
