Wonderland
This last week was very busy with work (my real job). It just seemed to fly by. I did not get the chance to share with you guys. I truly missed sharing and creating. I normally try to make something everyday. This helps keep my creativity flowing. I am hoping that I will be back to this practice this week. I miss you guys when I am not sharing with y’all. Today’s card has been setting around on my desk all week waiting for me to put it together. The majority of the design was developed over the weekend. Then it sat waiting for me…Finally, Saturday morning it got assembled.
I love looking at all the different creations on the internet by very talented card makers. One of the obvious trends I have seen this year is Shaker Cards! I love all the different ways artiest have come up with new shakers. And what’s more fun than a card with sequins and glitter!!!!
I am part of a very talented group of stampers called InKing Royalty. The leader of the group Brian King sent me some fabulous sequins by Stampin’ Up! When I received the little gift. I decided that I had no excuse now. I have to try and make a shaker card….
Now, what to make…. The colors of the sequins were black, clear, white, gold, and silver. This led me to a winger card. Something snowy. I landed on the stamp set Wonderland. I had been working with this set and decided the trees would look nice and snowy. This would be perfect for the winter card I wanted.
This stamp set is so very pretty. The trees are perfect pines. The antlers are going to come in use very soon. The two sentiments remind me of Christmas Eve and the peace and quite that can be found in the chaos of the season.
This was so much fun to create. First, I stamped the pines in versa mark ink. Using white embossing powder and my heat gun I embossed the stamped pines. Then fussy cut the image out. (DO WHAT, yes…fussy cut the pines!!! Actually, they were quite easy)
The card base is Basic Black card stock cut at 5 1/2 inches and scored at 4 1/4 inches. The layers are Dazzling Diamonds Glimmer Paper (5 3/8 by 4 1/8) and Basic Black (5 1/4 by 4) There is also a Window Sheet layer that is 5 1/4 by 4. The Basic Black layer middle was cut with the rectangle from Seasonal Frame Thinlits. This made a perfect frame for the shaker card. The frame was then embossed with the Softly Falling embossing folder and Big Shot.
The word snow was cut out twice. Once with glimmer paper and once in Basic Black. The two were layered so that the black would shadow the glimmer paper.
The assembly of the card was quite interesting. I wanted the sequins to stay towards the top of the card. So my “house for the shakers had work around the tops of the tree. The first thing I did was glue the tress to the frame. Then I added the Window Sheet layer to the frame and trees. Then I used microfiber cloth to clean the window sheet. I added the “house” for the shakers using foam tape. (next time I will build up a larger “house” by layering two foam tape strips on top of each other. This will give the sequins more room to shake) On the Glimmer paper is a very small pile I added Sequins, Gold Glitter, and Silver Glitter. Making sure that the pile was small enough that they would fit into the “house” . Then add the frame to the glimmer paper and wa-la you have a shaker card.
This card was so much fun to make. I am looking forward to making many more in the future. I hope each and everyone of you have had a great Sunday!
