Go green or go home…

Yesterday was St. Patrick’s Day.  One of my favorite days of the year.  Not for all the partying that it has turned into.  But, Because we get to celebrate a man who Glorified God.  It is not often that we get honor a man who was a slave and come back to the land who enslaved him to share the word of God.  If you do not know the story of St. Patrick it is quite interesting  and full of honor.  We all have a little St. Patrick’s in us.    A friend of my recently overcame a sort of slavery of her own.  She was in a job that had taken over.  Because of commitments to fellow employees and her relationships with them she was  reluctant to make the choices that was best for her.  She stayed with her comment until the end!  I love her so much for that!! Because, even though her situation was suffocating her to a slow death. Her love for her fellow workers was so great she was willing to sacrifice so that they could flourish.  The situation recently changed and my friend is now able to do what is best for her!!!  This is so amazing to watch!!!   Though in the traditional scene she has not been a slave.  But, more than once she said to me she has been set free!!!  I  was thinking about this when, I thought that most of us have experienced some form of captivity.  It is defiantly not what others have been through, but in some way we all know what it feels like to be set free…. I am so excited for my friend because, now finally she gets to do thing her way…  St. Patrick defiantly did things his way, after being set free!!!   So in honor of Meg and St. Patrick let’s make some green cards …

Today’s card is full of green!  And what goes with green better than white and a great sketch from Global Design Project!!!  #078

I just love the bold stamp set, Layering Love.  It has the best sentiments!! And I just love the bold fount!!!   Live, laugh, love is just perfect!!!  And the sometimes the smallest thing… Just love :>

I have two cards to share with you today.  The first is taking the sketch in the most traditional sense of a sketch.  The second card I took some liberty with the sketch.

  • Using my clarity stencil brushes and my favorite stencil to add texture to the background.
  • Then added layers of green and white stripes and polka dots.
  • over this I added a layer with the stitched dies and the sentiment.

For the second card, I decided to use a white background and added texture to it!!!!!

  • still using the stencil brushes I added Wild Wasabi ink to the Whisper White background.  These brushes make it very easy to add some texture to a background.  And the color goes on so very smooth!!!!
  • the sketch is turned on its side and  the circle is enlarged!!!
  • the sentiment is perfect fit in the circle!  It is bold and makes a statement against the background!!!!

There are lots of amazing stamp sets in the Occasions Catalog.  Some are getting lots of love from us all.  The bookshelf builder stamp set is one that is easy to look over! This set had lots of fun elements that can be used together on a bookshelf or individually for an all new look!!!

Bookshelf Builder Stamp Set

Let’s talk about the sentiments!!! These are just some of the best!!  The combination of fonts makes them extra special?

I decided to check out the “newer” Ombre stamp pads.  The first of the Ombre stamp pad came out in the Annual Catalog. Then in the Occasions Catalog Stampin’ Up! released new colors. The ombre stamp pads are available in Peekaboo Peach, Rich Razzleberry, Calypso Coral, and Bermuda Bay.  Stampin’ Up! has a great video about the ombre stamp pads.  This video is what convinced me to try these ink pads out!!!!

  • The card basis is scored using the score board. This adds a little interest to the white space on the card.
  • The “I love you & all your stuff” really shows off the ombre effect of the ink pads
  • The books and the vases show how you can use individual shades from each ink pad
