Ticket to ride

Posted by on Aug 15, 2017 in Holiday Catalog 2017, Merry Little Christmas, watercolor, Watercolor pincles, Wonderful Life, Year of Cheer | 0 comments

Music is a big source of inspiration for me.  I love all sorts of music.  And at different stages of my life different genres of music appealed to me.  The older I get the more I want to listing to music that is relaxing.  That being said, some times it great to pull out the records of the past and enjoy the memories rush through.  One of the first albums that I pull out is Vanilla Fudge.  The other  and I use to listen to this album all the time. Sit on the screened in porch and Blair music ? and drink martinis ?.   Mind you we lived in the middle of a hay-field.  One of the awesome songs was ticket to ride. A Beatles cover stuck amongst some very awesome tunes. I know how the songs on the albumSegway from one to the next….  I was thinking about all this yesterday morning while I was working on my card for today.   And what a Wonderful Life we have had together.  It was not the life either of us expected.  It has definitely had its moments!! But,  I would do it all over again to be on that porch with martinis and Vanilla Fudge… The Wonderful Life stamp set from the upcoming Holiday Catalog is so stinking cute.  I can just see  Clark Griswold packing for Christmas or that young couple headed out on their first adventure!! This adorable stamp set has my ticket for sure.

Wonderful Life

I adore this stamp set!  It is perfect for watercolor! Witch is my favorite thing to do!  It is just totally relaxing!!!  I love the way watercolor makes you relax and just let the color do its thing.

I made two cards for you today! They are basically the same card. But, with different themes and colors!!! The Wonderful Life stamp set is perfect for so many different occasions!!!

I love how just changing a few thing like color and paper makes a whole new card for a completely different occasion!

Both cards are square! My favorite size of card to make right now!!! I love the big 5 1/5 by 5 1/2 inch square cards I have been making.  But, my friend Julie, the Paper Pixie, makes the most adorable little mini cards.  My goal was to make something simular…well, things didn’t go as planned?   my cards did not turn out mini… They are 4 1/2 by 4 1/2.  This size feels like the perfect size for a square card!!!

  • The elements are stamped in archival Basic Black on shimmery white paper
  • I used my watercolor pencils, gold and clear wink of stella to add color.  I used basic gray for the bumper.   Real red and old olive for the presents.  One present is gold wink of stella. The car is daffodil delight.  The wheels are basic black
  • After the watercolor was dried I used a black pin to go over some of the lines that were faded.

Here is a close up of the watercolor

I love that Stampin’ Up! has thought of all the details! They even give you stamps to add a personalized tag!  ?  I also love how the gold wink of stella looks like shimmery kraft paper! How fun is that ?

The card base is real red.  To make a 4 1/2 by 4 1/2 square card. Cut a piece of card stock so that it is 4 1/2 by 7 inches. On the 7 inch side score and burnish at 4 1/2 inches.  The polka dots layer is from the Merry Little Christmas Designer Series Paper.  The dsp is cut to be 4 3/8 by 4 3/8 inches.  The popped up layer is real red and shimmery white. The real red is 3 5/8 by 3 5/8 inches. The shimmery white is 3 1/2 by 3 1/2 inches.

  • By just changing the colors to metallic and peach with a big splash of rich razzleberry we have this sweet wedding card!!!
  • I used the wink of stella pins to color most of the presents. On two I used clear wink of stella and peekaboo peach ink refill
  • The car is watercolored just like the other excerpt, I used the rich razzleberry watercolor pencils instead of daffodil delight
  • The tin cans are basic gray with a touch of clear wink of stella.
  • As if this card did not have enough shine. I layered it with the Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper and Champagne Foil

Here is an up close of this watercolor and all the fun layers!!!

The card base is peekaboo peach (same as described above)   The next layer is the Year of Cheer Designer Series Paper. The dsp is cut 4 3/8 by 4 3/8 inches. The next three layers are popped up. The champagne foil is 3 7/8 by 3 7/8 inches. The peekaboo peach layer is 3 3/4 by 3 3/4 inches.

Beautiful You with a simple watercolor

Posted by on Aug 14, 2017 in Beautiful You, Coloring Tools 2017, ink as watercolor | 4 comments

One of my all time favorite  stamp sets is Beautiful You!  I love the way the ladies are drawn in this stamp set!  The sentiments are fabulous as well.  I love that they give you the option of coloring in the stamps or using the sketchy watercolor looking stamps.  This lends to lots of different looks that you can achieve.

Beautiful You Stamp Set

I adore how this set is classic yet modern!

One of my favorite things to do is watercolor with Stampin’ Up! ink refills.  It is a quick way to add some color to your card.  It is also fun to watch how the ink reacts with each other and water.  I have not watercolored much lately, so I was ready to relax and watercolor!!!

  • I love this clean and simple layout paired with the classy lady.
  • The watercolor panel is shimmery white cardstock.  On the shimmery white stamp the image in Archival Basic Black. Then use your aqua painter and ink refills to watercolor the image.
  • For the watercolor I used pool party, tranquil tide, and lemon lime twist
  • The dress is watercolored in pool party. Then I dropped in tranquil tide and let the watercolor do its thing.  The umbrella is done the same way, but lemon lime twist with pool party and tranquil tide dropped in
  • The watercolor panel is popped up with soft sky and stampin’ dimensionals

The paper is all new in the Holiday Catalog (Available Sep.1) ,  Painted Autumn. This paper is full of beautiful fall designs and coordinating patterns.

The ribbon, lemon lime twist ombre ribbon, is also a new products. It made its debut in the 2017 Annual Catalog!

The card is a 4 bar size.  Stampin’ Up! makes some wonderful notecards and envelopes in this size.  Unfortunately, I was out of very vanilla. It is quite easy to make this size of card! Though I do recommend the Stampin’ Up! set. Because, you get the coordinating envelope!!! And you can decorate the envelope flap with the dsp! How cute !

To make my card base use Thick Very Vanilla paper.  Cut it so that it is 5 by 7.  On the 7 inch side score and burnish at 3 1/2 inches.  There is a soft sky layer that is 3 3/8 by 4 7/8. The next layer is made up of two panels one dsp that is 2 1/8 by 4 3/4. And tranquil tide that is 1 1/8 by 4 3\4. These two layers my overlap just a bit! That’s okay. It will be covered by ribbon. The next layers are the watercolor panels.  The soft sky is 3 1/8 by 2 1/8. The watercolor layer is shimmery white 2 by 3
