Inking Royalty Blog Hop “My Favorite New In Color”

Flirty Flamingo

Welcome to InKing Royalty’s June Blog Hop!  Stampin’ Up!’s 2016 Annual Catalog introduced us to five new In Colors:  Dapper Denim, Emerald Envy, Flirty Flamingo, Peekaboo Peach and Sweet Sugarplum.  What a beautiful collection of versatile colors!  Today’s Blog Hop is filled with inspiring projects that feature each artist’s favorite new In Color.  After you read my post, I hope you’ll hop over to the next person on the list at the base of this post.

There is this wonderful new stamp set in the Annual Catalog called Playful Backgrounds. You guys know I love a good background stamp set.   And this set defiantly makes it easy to create quick and playful  cards.  I have also been trying to embrace white space on a card.  The balancing act between color everywhere and enough white to make the card look balanced. I often fight the urge to keep adding to card.  Knowing when enough is enough is hard. Because adding just one more element can either make or brake the entire card.

I made two different versions of the same card  using the stripes from the set.  I love how the stripes are not perfect.  It makes it so easy to line up and make a perfect imperfect card.  They remind me of the pulse lines on a stereo back when.  IMAG3337

This was my original card.  I love the monochromatic look. It really shows how pretty the Flirty Flamingo color is.  And really you could use your favorite new In-color for this card.  And it would be awesome!  While making this card I decided to make several cards.  And while stamping the background I though hummm…. This would look awesome turned the other way.   IMAG3340

This card is basically the same.  With one major exception.  I actually made this card twice.  My first try was not quite right.  The Happy was getting lost in the pretty stripes.  The solution was to stack the  happy die.  I did this by cutting 5 of the happy dies out and gluing them together with the fine tip glue.  I have tried in the past to use “fun foam”  on the back of the card stock and then die cut the element.  I personalty don’t like the white foam that shows on the side of the dies.  Just one of those little things that makes me special…  Anyway, that technique works wonders if you can get past the bright white thing….. Stacking the dies totally makes this version of the card pop.   Below are the two cards side by side.  Can you see the difference?????IMAG3348

  2. I think Flirty Flamingo is one of my favorite new in-colors…at least for now. Really cute cards. I like both of them with the Playful Backgrounds lines stamped vertically or horizontally. The tip about stacking 5 sentiments does really make a difference. TFS

  6. I love when a few elements come together to make such vibrant and fun cards like these. I switched at the last minute, but we must have been sharing a brainwave because I almost used the same stamp set.

    • Shawn- ha…I’ll share brain waves with you any day if I get some of your great design style. Love!!!

  7. Jen, I love how you stacked the die cut sentiment on one of your cards! It gives a whole different layer of texture. Great cards, as always. So creative!
